Alerts in Calendar - sometimes multiple allowed, sometimes not

On my Galaxy S23 Ultra sometimes when I create an appointment on the calendar it will allow me to set multiple alerts (which I want); other times it will only allow me to set 1 alert (which I don't want). What makes the difference and how can I always have the option of multiple alerts?

I am using the calendar icon on the home screen but it doesn't identify itself as either Samsung Calendar or Google Calendar so I don't know which it is.

Here are three screenshots. Is this what you mean? For most of the time I've had the phone I could select alert and a custom alert field would appear at the bottom. I'd set it and another custom alert field would appear at the bottom. That repeated for about 5 or so alerts. Not long ago that changed and now I get a customer alert field. I set it. And it looks like the third screen shot that once I choose a time, 5 hours in this case, the custom alert field disappears.

ok, you're using the Samsung Calendar app. I use the same app and have never seen/recognized an option to set multiple alerts for one event. perhaps someone else on here is more familiar with this issue.

The OP's third screen shows the alerts screen settings. After selecting the pencil edit icon, then alerts, you can check multiple alert times & create additional custom ones.

just played with a test entry and selected multiple alert times. (never saw any pencil edit icon though)

I went through 3 months of appointments & they all had the option to set multiple alerts except:

• If the entry had come from the Samsung Reminder app. That only allows snoozing the reminder, as far as I know.

• Also, if the entry was generated from an important date entered on one of my contacts.
Example: If I entered X's birthday directly on my calendar then I could set multiple alerts. If the X's birthday was entered in the important date section of his contact info, which then showed up my calendar, I can't set any alerts.

Could your missing multiple alert settings be on entries that were made on an app outside of the calendar app that then appear on the calendar or maybe imported entries?

Just throwing out a couple of ideas ...
(Also, my calendar is using on board storage, not cloud storage)

I also use the on-device calendar, not Google/Outlook/etc.

I didn't do a good job of clarifying the new event vs existing event. Thanks for pointing that out!

I like Samsungs calendar. I use the on board storage instead of the cloud as I have too much personal info listed & don't feel comfortable putting my contacts info on the cloud. (Not that they give me the same consideration )

I just back up the data to my PC using Samsung's Smart Switch & theoretically, it should remain cloud free.

I do Smart Switch backups to a SSD. that's wicked fast, compared to PC Smart Switch.

I've been considering trying backing up to a SSD.

I think SSD backups are incremental instead of full backups. That definitely would decrease the length of time. I usually start the PC backup, then go prepare dinner as I know the backup is going to take awhile.

So no hiccups using the SSD?

none. and had to do a restore from the SSD a couple of years ago after a factory reset.
