All sold out (Google only, Verizon still has them in stock)

Verizon does not count.. check the Google store, EVERYTHING is sold out or 4-5 week wait..

How exactly did Google mess this up?????????????????????????

They didn't mess it up. They sent the majority of the phones to Verizon, since, you know, Verizon gave them a bunch of money to do that.

Nobody in their right mind would wait a month for no good reason when they could walk in to a Verizon store and pick one up right away

Nope...

Verizon won't sell a phone to you if you do not have a VZW account.:

And why on earth would you choose one that may very well be crippled out the gate? I for one don't trust Verizon with updates.

Oh well, to each their own.

Also, do you have stock level #'s to back up your claim that Google sent most of its stock to VZW? I highly doubt you do so....:::::::::::::

I hate this, same thing with iPhone. Do they really not think to make more to get them out sooner?

It looks a lot better for a company when a product is sold, out of stock, and in demand, rather than having inventory sitting around collecting dust.

Being that this is Google's first launch with Pixel, they had no idea what the actual hype and demand for the product would be. This decision was likely made months ago, and Google expected Samsung's Note 7 not to falter. For a company like Google, which isn't as big as the cellular device juggernauts like Samsung and Apple, they likely wanted to have enough phones to break even and make a little profit.

Now that they see how many folks are anticipating the release of their phone not through Verizon, they'll adjust their expectations for next year, but don't expect a overproduction of phones. What would the perception be if they actually did overproduce phones?

"Oh man, Google's phone must suck. They still aren't sold out..." .... "It's probably not as good as an iPhone then. I'm going to buy an iPhone."

Eh... Folks who aren't on Verizon or who don't want to switch carriers will wait because that's probably the best (or only) option for them? (I'm on Verizon and I pre-ordered through them). Just how it is, like how Apple was exclusive for a while.

Well...the fact that the next wave won't ship until late November really puts a damper on my hopes that at least the 32gb Pixel would have something of a Black Friday sale... :-p

I no longer understand the purpose of this thread . . .

Me either.. Most of these threads get derailed by someone who is proven wrong and / or has no facts to back up ridiculous claims then they spend the rest of their time and effort detailing it...

This one is derailed and can probably be closed.

I wanted to discuss if the reason for the stock levels. Is because they were low or was it high demand.. That went by the wayside quickly after someone decided they wanted it to be something different..

Oh well, it's the internet right? I view most posts like the ones here that ramble on as comic relief while I wait for my Pixel to ship.. :D

@raqball - I doubt anybody who knows the reason for the stock levels is hanging around here.

True but it could be fun to discuss... I personally think it was high demand for the phone. This forum is littered with tantrums and fits saying the phone is a failure and nobody will buy it....But... Google has sold everything they had available...

I'm wondering if you can buy from Verizon, not activate with Verizon, but get a Project Fi sim card to run the phone.

Verizon won't sell you the phone if you don't have an account.. Best Buy might but I don't know for sure.

Also maybe non corporate VZW stores would?? If you can get one, it should work fine on Fi.. ALL VZW phones are SIM unlocked because the Feds forced them to do it..

I tend to agree about the high demand and 100% agree on the "tantrums and fits" comment. These mods have way more patience that I do.....

A trip to the local non-company VZW store I have dealt with for years. They have Pixels, they will not sell them until they are supposed to and their phones have to be activated on VZW - asked and answered.

ETA - I do have a V account, have for years.
ETA - 1 It was kinda sorta mentioned if they had stock left in a couple of weeks they might sell me one
ETA - 2 me and my Z force will be traveling into the future together.

Every color and size is sold out now and has a 4-5 week wait..

The naysayers and haters are probably cringing.. LOL

Do you think they all sold out that fast due to low stock or high demand??

I personally think it was / is high demand..

Until Google comes out and says how many were preordered that means nothing. Google could have had very few in stock (like the nexus 6 launch) when it sold out and then a few months later you find out it really didn't sell that well. Good that they are sold out, but most items on the Google store seem to sell out and be restocked often.

Verizon might have demanded enough stock for launch day to get the exclusive. Google caved and gave them a slug of phones, leaving them short.
