I'm finally surrendering and I'm going to allow this update my LG G3 has been asking for for several months. Basically just to see if the battery life maybe might improve a little and now the phone is doing some strange things. It will take itself off of vibrate or silent mode at random. Power switch turns the screen off but then it pops right back on. Just little quirks like that.
This will be the first update I've attempted in close to 3 years when I did one for my Galaxy S3 and it really choked the phone down. Back then I was able (somehow) to roll back to the previous version but now they've taken that out.
From what I can tell I need to back up the phone, do the update, then do a factory reset? Over the weekend I looked around for some youtube videos or something that would explain the procedure maybe in some terms that I could understand but I didn't have much luck.
First on the backup. What am I backing up to? What am I backing up? Contacts, videos, pictures, apps? One video showed where you select backup and reset but didn't say anything about choosing the backup destination. Am I backing up to my computer or somewhere else? I'm assuming that once everything is done I will need that backup to reload pictures, videos, etc. back to the phone. But maybe that's not how it goes.
Now on the factory reset. The videos on this were pretty short. They just showed holding down the down volume + power switch then releasing the power switch when the LG logo appears. But is the phone completely powered off and shut down when you do this? They also skipped over how you recover from the reset. Just sign into your Google account and everything gets restored?
My service is through Verizon.
Thanks.
