So... in safe mode it works... it wakes my screen and the edge lighting works... but this is because it's the Samsung text app.. which also works for me normally it seems. Basically it seems the Google messages text app does not wake the screen or work with edge lighting. Not sure what other events (if any) will wake the screen outside of the default Samsung apps. Gmail doesn't seem to.

So I guess I am forced to use the Samsung messages app. That sucks.

Ok that's a good sign, means nothing wrong with edge lighting,do you have all apps on ?

Which apps? Yes, I have everything going for the most part.

So testing with the Samsung text app.. it will wake to lock screen or do edge lighting if enabled. Seems like this app is the only one that will wake to lock screen or do edge lighting with the screen off.

When I change the default text app to Google messages I get the sound and vibration but no wake up or edge color.

Totally fine with nothing else waking the screen... I just wavy the easy glance text. Prefer messages... but could use Samsung I guess... it's not that much different and has some nice category features.

Also another member suggest Aod notify app it gives lighting around the camera
Yep, I played with it a bit. It's well done and integrates with Samsung always on display really well instead of trying to replace it. Does not help if you want native edge lighting to work though. But... might be good enough for what I need. You do have to pay for a good bit of the features and the circle light doesn't seem to go away when the notification is cleared sometimes.

BTW, if it's not obvious since I'm still posting about the note, decided to keep it vs exchanging for pixel. now my only concern is S21 envy hehe... and this rumored pixel pro device which sounds too good to be true. Generally loving the ultra though! Minor Samsung software annoyances aside.

Yeah, and I heard it's broken with 3.0... which hopefully we'll see stable in a week or so. Odd that the newest phone is last in line. I guess technically the s20 fe is newest
