Am I being too picky?

Just got my second nexus 7. First one had screen lift. The replacement I just got... has screen lift. I was kind of upset the first time but now i'm kind of pissed. I am trying to decide whether to A. get another replacement B. send it back and demand a refund C. keep it and possibly void the warranty trying to repair it. I tried tightening the screws on the first one but I didn't want to buy into the whole getting it hot and letting the glass sit method. Should I expect a non defective product for $250 or am I just being too picky?

I'd get another. The odds of you getting two bad ones were low, the odds of getting three is very low.

As for fixing it, some swear it works, others have all said that over time it works it's way loose again. I wouldn't do it unless iFixit or some other big name endorses the fix.

Getting what you paid for is not being picky. You are not obligated to accept poor quality, especially for $250. If these were $50 toys you see at the checkout counter of CVS, then you may be expecting too much, but these are Google-branded products manufactured by ASUS, so the expectation of non-defectiveness is not unreasonable.

Keep sending them back until you get one that's good. Otherwise, get a refund and hunt one down at a B&M store that you can inspect it right there and get instant satisfaction.

It's a shame now a days that the norm is to expect defects on the initial batch of phones/tablets. Either it be hardware or software related. It's almost to the point to where I want to open the box of the stuff I buy just to make sure there are no defects.

I did get lucky on my N7 though and have had no troubles.

I'm in the same boat. Just got my replacement today, and it also has the screen separation issue. Not as bad as the first one, and it kind of sticks down if I push it, but I just envision this getting worse.

It's sad they can't even assemble their own products correctly. I'm tempted to just return it for a refund and forget the whole thing.

I've had a Galaxy Nexus since January with no issues. That thing is solid, why can't Asus pull this off, and why can't Google be bothered to make sure they do?

Do we have any idea how bad the screen lifting has to be in order for them to allow an exchange? Mine is pretty subtle right now but I know from experience with my first unit that it can get worse in a hurry. I'd rather not wait around for that to happy. Especially because I also have 2 dead pixels. I love the device, I just want one without issues.

Another reason to send it back, (regardless if you ask for another one, or get a refund) is Google and Asus needs to see that they have a problem so they can fix it on newer production runs. Also if enough do get sent back they may look into a recall or something.

If you're not happy return it. Make it clear why you are returning it. Some are getting ones without problems, it's not fair that we should have to live with defective stuff.

If they give you a problem about it, escalate to a supervisor, or contact your credit card and tell them not to pay it. Most likely the CC company will side with you.

Mine is not as bad as the first one, but it's definitely going back.
