Am I doing myself a diservice by not system upgrading?

My phone asks me to update every few days to a week and I always refuse it. Reason is because I am rooted. Am I doing myself more harm than good by refusing? It's been asking me for a few months now.

No, do not accept the update. It will take away root from you.

Are you running the stock rom, just rooted? If so just flash a rom that based off the latest update like... [ROM] The EVO Classic v0.0.3 - Sense 1.0 Redefined - Circle of Life - xda-developers This one. Its simple and nothing crazy going on if youre not comfortable with custom roms yet.

This is not entirely true. If he is already running Gingerbread 2.3, this update is most likely the HTC security patch. It won't unroot is phone. If he is running 2.2, then this will unroot his phone but it's not like he can't root his phone with 2.3. It really depends on which OS version he wants to run, 2.2 or 2.3.

Rule of thumb is to not accept OTAs if you're rooted. Period.

If you accept them, then you're accepting the risks also.
