Is there not a way to set this phone to vibrate and ring at the same time?

in sound settings, click vibrate. it'll vibrate on all calls and notifications. mine does.

Yup, exactly what Fezz said. You can also have your messages vibrate and ring simultaneously.

So are you wanting it vibe for calls or messages/alerts or both? There are tons of notification settings with these phones. There are also settings for what it does when in your pocket. It took me a bit to get all the stuff set were I like it.

I want it to do both. I also just figured out that when I set my phone to vibrate only, it doesnt vibrate at all for sms

Still no ideas? I thought maybe once 2.3 came out the issue would be resolved. My buddy as the same problem.

Here's a thought, does your phone actually vibrate to begin with?

Setting > Sound > click on vibrate

Really that's weird. I always have my ringer set all the way up and my phone vibrates for both calls and sms. And I haven't switched any settings except for the sound.

You have to specify each alert to 'vibrate' as well. So go into text messages, click on settings, and under the notification setting, there is a vibrate option there too. You have to set it for each item (texts, gtalk, gmail, etc.) individually.
