Am I the only former iPhone owner who made the switch and is very disappointed?

Do you know what the difference is between their "anti-glare", "ultra-clear", "privacy", and "mirror" screen protectors?

I may be the only one, but I have a Hero and prefer it over my iPhone 3GS. I like the customization of it and the look and feel. I absolutely love the Google integration. It does get a little laggy st times but it isn't anything that I can't tolerate. I haven't rooted my Hero, just like I didn't jailbreak my iPhone. I hope that the new update will solve some of the speed issues, but other than that, I have no complaints. I actually type very well on my Hero that has a more cramped keyboard than the Nexus One. The screen not being visible in direct sunlight would be frustrating, but I think that the Nexus One would offer so much more that I would be able to overlook it. One thing that I try to keep in mind when buying a new device like the Hero or the Nexus One is that you have to have some patience. I can't tell you how many times I have bought a new phone, had issues, returned it, only to find out that there was an update that fixed all of the issues that I had. What's wrong with the Facebook application? I love it. And I like how it is integrated into the operating system. I love having widgets that can be used without opening the application. I love my Android device. I still am a fan of iPhone, but I like my Hero much better.

Me and you both -- facebook. Maybe it's because I don't use it much as others may. It's usually to respond or wish someone a happy bday.

How is the Android facebook app when compared to the Blackberry's?

The reason the iPhone app is so good is because one of Facebook's lead devs started writing an app for it even before Apple put out an SDK - his passion for it was so high. In contrast, the Android version is only 6 months old. I wonder if they still consider it to be a secondary platform.

I'm not worried about the money spent, believe me I don't have to worry about spending $500. I'm disappointed in the phone no matter what the cost.

As far as research I did do extensive research before purchasing the phone, but the vast majority of the opinions on the phone were positive. You are right, my opinions are subjective, but I think the points I made in my first post are hard to disagree with.

Even though I can return the phone if I wanted to, I will keep it to play around with and maybe root it and play with a few roms, but will not be using it on a daily basis.

I only posted my opinions on switching from the iPhone and they are just that, my opinions. Take it or leave it, I just wanted to voice my concerns as anyone else is also able to do here.

a few suggestions... even though i'm running a Droid they can still basically apply....

1. Install the HTC keyboard. It has a calibration tool that i found is very helpful and the correction and predictive text is top notch.

2. Get a screen guard (invisible shield etc...) I was hesitant to do this at first but once i put it on it seems like the screen is MORE accurate and smudges less

3. Keep working with it.. the nexus isnt like the iPhone that is not customizable or flexible... Find out which rom/launcher/kernel/widgets/screens/keyboards/apps etc... suit your needs... it took me a month to really set up a good 7 screen HelixLauncher for my droid.

4. sorry about facebook... its true it isnt as good as iPhones but i would assume that some day it will

also dont forget about all the advantages that the Nexus/android has over the iPhone. i wont list them so you can think about it ;)

its true the 3GS is a beast... iPhone HD will wreck

I switched from a jailbroken 3Gs to the Nexus One on AT&T and I love it. I'm not sure why the lack of ability to change fonts is listed as a con for you since you can't do that on any iPhone without hacking anyway?

I got really tired of Apple's walled garden that prevented me from doing things like a native Google Voice app. I haven't picked up my 3Gs in 2 weeks, and I can't say that I miss it. I don't see much of a difference in the Facebook apps from 3Gs to N1. Facebook sucks no matter how nice the program is :)

I did get to use an N1 prior to buying my own, and that sealed the deal for me. I also get much better speeds with my N1 - upload is significantly faster (4x). Navigation is also much better. Oh, and the screen? Wow. It's amazing, and I don't have any problems with it out in the sunlight - autobrightness takes care of that for me.

Buying a phone is something personal since odds are you have it with you every waking moment, and parked on your nightstand at bedtime.

I can appreciate a personal attachment to your choice of smart phone, but I think it goes too far when people start to take it personal. Use of facebook is relative. Some people live on it and some use it sparingly. I rarely use the fb app or site, and use it more specifically to chat with family through ebuddy or meebo. So I can see why Urprey may not have used every aspect of it. I would have to agree, the Android App is nowhere near as good as the iphone app, if I remember correctly, the iphone app lets you chat, send e-mails, and provides a full range of picture features and other capabilities directly from the app itself. The Andriod App just isn't there, but I'm pretty sure I could have found a better way of making my point without calling someone a crackhead.

Could not some company come out with a screen protector that would cut the glare of the sun?

The version of Android your Hero runs is in the stone age compared to 2.0 and 2.1. It is ready for mass consumption NOW, and it shows.

I'm not sure I understand your first paragraph though. The OS is no more complicated than the iPhone's. (I had a 3G and 3GS prior to my N1, and the experience is similar). The user DOES have more options for customization, but that doesn't make it complicated and unintuitive. And what expense for upgrading? All upgrades for Android are free, unless your handset can't support the version of the OS.

Expense for the carrier, my carrier is rethinking android os on any more phones. They have to ask for and pay for the updates, then test on their network, a lot of expense for them, they seem to be taken by surprise the amount of people who would want the latest software version. true more customization itself does not mean more complicated automatically, but the hero is not very intuitive at all, as well as being way underpowered. Why have an os that can multitask on hardware that struggles to do it?

U are right about the screen in the sun light but that's a price u pay for having a better screen. As to the responce of the touchscreen I've had no issues with it. Infact I think it is equal to the iPhone and I've had an iPhone. The n1 is the best phone I've ever had. Its not perfect but will get better with updates just as the iPhone did with updates. I like it better becouse it does everything that I want a phone to do. My iPhone couldn't do half of what I wanted it to.

Android is free. Google does not charge carriers/manufacturers for it, nor will they ever.

Which Facebook app are you guys talking about? There are like 4 of them. There is one (the one that gives you the widget) that is actually qiite good. Not quite as good as iPhones but give them a couple months. I've seen it improve in the month and a half I have had my Droid.

MySpace on the other hand.... yeah that one blows

I'm using the one that's preloaded on the Nexus One and it's fine for me. Not sure what they are talking about.
