Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performance?

Re: Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performa

It is a dick response. Yelling at OP cause he's dissapointed in a feature.
First these stopped being 'phones' years ago. They're converged devices (smartphone) capable of many functions...one of which is phoneing.
So when people are dissapointed in a function, its in the smartphone context.
As smartphones go....the dude is dissapointed in gaming experience. Perfectly valid forum topic. In terms of smartphones (his Nexus) its NOT expecting too much.
Its a copout to say: its not a gaming console. No ****.
I'm dissapointed in the camera...as smartphones (Nokia, Sony, Iphone etc) go HTC pic quality is just poor now. Copout to say "It's not a camera".
Too many forum nazi's. How bout: open market on opinions?

i came from a palm pre and this phone is the greatest thing ever compared to it.i cant beileve that the op compared this phone to the pre. it didnt even play the games that well.

Re: Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performa

I am coming from the OG EVO, and so far i am very pleased with the performance of this phone. I have to charge it more then my OG EVO, but i had the extended battery on that bad boy to last forever. Other then that, i love it.

Re: Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performa

No, you're not the only one. I too am underwhelmed with the 3D. After a few days there is a lot of things that feel half baked on it. Gaming performance, while not a tremendous concern for me, seems OK at best. What really bothers me is the extremely crappy camera, horrid battery life, and inconsistent performance. If you are buying a high end smartphone like this, I think it is unreasonable to believe rebooting the phone multiple times in a day is ok simply because you went to unlock the phone and the screen is frozen. Or that getting some lag here or there is acceptable. I'm not a fanboy and I can tell you this phone is not what some make it out to be. There are plenty of people here updating from antiquated phones and they may see a great performance jump. From a Nexus S 4G and OG Evo, the jump is more "meh" than "WOW!!!!".

The OG Evo started the spec wars we see now. It was one of the first consumer ready phones with a 1ghz processor, the GPU, and screen size that many people now enjoy. Problem is they created a market of consumers who now expect more and more with each revision. The 3D does not feel like a true successor to the OG Evo and for some, that's fine. They expect HTC or the modding community to make the phone feel like the rocketship in time, after some hacks or software updates are applied. An issue with that is, shouldn't it be that great out of the box? In my opinion you shouldn't buy a phone based on how it performs now rather than it's potential (much like the NFL draft philosophy) ?

It makes me laugh when the fanboys come to defense when anybody (or review for that matter) criticizes the 3D. Like you insulted their ugly baby or something. They say "don't use it for gaming, get a DS" or "it's not a camera, it's a phone". Really? Let people decide what they want to use their device for. If you only use a Snapdragon processor to text and make phone calls, that's your problem; not the guy who wants to play a game and have it work smoothly. For example, my brother-in-law took pictures of my wedding with his iPhone 4. How good were they? Good enough to blow up and have people ask if the photographer took those pics. Last I checked, the iPhone 4 was a smartphone so expecting a "top end" phone like the 3D to compete with a year old device doesn't seem so crazy.

For me, I will keep the phone for a bit longer and see what happens. Right now, the battery life is so terrible that the phone could not last from when I leave for work till I get home. That is unacceptable. I've power cycled the battery three times now (about to try number 4) and I am hoping that it will finally get better. Odds are, it will not. I have no problem calling up my Sprint rep and getting a RMA for it. I really enjoyed my OG Evo and was hopping this would blow it out of the water. Thus far, I regret selling it for something as poor as this. Sorry for the rant but I felt some people on the fence of buying this phone or not needed to hear something other than "it's super fast", "nope never had a problem", or the "battery life is amazing".

Yes on applications and just about everything this phone is a rocketship! But on games it leaves a lot to be desired. Smartbench 2011 score of 1600 for games meanwhile my almost 2 month old old Nexus S 4G with a mid 2010 chipset scores 2450 for the gaming index score. Yeah yeah I realize you cannot trust benchmarks because of the fact you're testing a single core vs a dual core... BUT the fact is my old Nexus runs every single game I have downloaded from the market considerably better than the Evo 3D. Whether its Homerun 3D Battle,Glow Hockey,Tap Tap 4, and don't laugh even Restaurant Story the Nexus runs every single one at a considerably better framerate. There is nothing wrong with my particular Evo 3D because I already watched other youtube videos with benchmarks and it got the same score as mine.

I'm not trying to be a flamer but I am just disappointed with this being a brand spanking new device and not being able to outperform 1 year old hardware. Since I used a upgrade from my Airave line lol, I believe I will just stick with my nexus and sell the Evo 3D for a good $250-$300 profit and maybe wait for the Photon or GS2 with their superior gaming chipsets. Or hell maybe even a Pre 3? We shall see but just thought I would give my two cents... Would love to hear others thoughts as well!

Samsung just outperforms htc, plain and simple. Htc is pretty with sense and fancy weather animations and all. But i feel htc is more business targeted. Samsung is geared more towards music, videos, pictures and gaming.

That may be the case. If I return the 3D I will activate another phone for the time being and wait and see what the next "super phone" will be. Samsung GS2 sounds like a winner from what I've seen.

Re: Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performa

Im with you. I had the hero, passed on the evo for the epic and now I'm anxiously awaiting the SGS2. My wife had the evo and it wasn't much different then the hero. For me personally htc phones are all the same.

I understand your point about devices like this these being mutlifunction devices, not just phones anymore and you're correct. However, the primary purpose is communication - talk, text, email, Facebook, twitter etc. It is a phone 1st, the rest of what it can do is secondary.

the fact that these are converged devices means something has to give somewhere. As great as technology is these days i think to expect to merge so much (phone, computer, ebook, camera,mp3,gaming,etc) into one small package and expect full functionality from each component is a bit unreasonable. And stand alone device will handle its dedicated task better than a device trying to do its job and a hundred others. As good as iPhone or nokia phone cameras may be, they're not gonna hold a candle to a canon or Nikon dslr camera. A car may have decent rear cargo room and a trailer hitch, but does that mean I should take it to a construction site and expect it to haul lumber and concrete etc as well as a diesel powered pickup truck that was designed for such tasks? Of course not.

Lastly, I don't believe saying "its a phone" is a copout. I believe its a reminder to put things in perspective and temper your expectations. Yes it is capable of a lot, but at the end of the day Its a phone, not a home PC or a government supercomputer. Its a phone.

I work for the government and I can tell, if what we have are supercomputers, then we are all doomed lol. Seriously though, having realistic expectations about a device is not so far fetched. I mean, the OP is trying to run games, available in the Android Market, on his top end Android phone. I can see if he was trying to run PS3 games on it. Obviously, it is not that kind of gaming device. Same as your camera reference, no it should not take DSLR quality photos but, should it be able to take usable ones? Be comparable to a device with less specs and a year older (such as the iPhone 4)? At the minimum, it should be more than capable of running the software that was developed for it or even lesser devices.

To simply say, it's a phone is an injustice beyond description. I used "just a phone" in the early 90's. THAT was a phone, this device has the specs of a high end netbook or even a low grade laptop. Expectations should be high and if some people (myself included) feel as if they missed the target than that is on the manufacturer, not the consumer.

I find it to be the opposite in terms tha Samsung outperforms HTC. I find that HTCs buidl quality of their phones are better and more stable. They dont feel like toys like samsungs do. I do like both Sense and touch wiz. But I have had and seen better luck with HTC keeping their softwares updated on a more timley basis then Samsung.

Keeping the perspective that these are just phones becomes difficult when the marketing for these phones promise everything. The consumer begins to expect greatness because that's how it is being hyped. But I do agree that our expectations are too high, but they are high for a reason.

I dont quite understand ur last line. What are u trying to imply, Everyone raving about this device are coming from Motorola startacs? The good user feedback is false? People are lying? Sorry to hear all the issues ur having with the 3D, but could it be that u were just unlucky and got a lemon? The user reviews this device is getting are overwhelming positive. Speaking from experience It is quite fast, and lag free and much better than the original in terms of battery life.

And as far as being king of specs, right now that title belongs to the Evo yet again. And it'll probably stay in the upper echelon until for quite a while because everything high end on the immediate horizon is dual core, hi Res screen, 4+ inch screen, 4G capable etc etc. Basically, everything the 3D is now, So I'm really not understanding what ur trying to say.

Isn't it true that the OG Evo has already received the OTA Gingerbread update but the Samsung Epic has not? If so, that's proof!

Re: Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performa

See the smart thing to do is wait for a couple. Of months for the next batch of evos to come out by they will have a lot of the bugs worked out. That is why I have not jumped ship on my evo yet if it ain't broke don't fix it people the grass ain't always greener

Re: Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performa

Guys, you have to realize that this is a brand new device. Expect lots of firmware to come out fixing things.

Re: Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performa

I think it's a matter of optimization. I noticed that a couple games ran super smooth on my Epic 4G are kind of jittery on my E3D. I think in a couple months, everything will smooth out

Exactly. I think that we get impatient with bugs when common sense and history says that there will always be problems at the start. In a couple of months, the phone will be stable.

Re: Am I the only one here disappointed with this phones performa

Not the case with the Nexus S though.

I cant believe people think that nexus has anything to do with samsung other than samsung designing the phone. It is not samsung's property, google calls the shots, google owns the name, its google's reputation on the line when nexus needs to be updated. Nexus phones are google's babies and they are always taken care of first. Google lets other companies design their phones doens't mean that company pushes the OS update, when nexus S gets ICS, it wont be because samsung had anything to do with it.
