Am I the only one that likes the invite system?

Same here. My Nex6 is great but want to see how the dedicated finger print button is, the notification toggle switch and little additions in their OS on top of Android....

I've got $400 for them. You'd think they'd want it ASAP...??? Especially if the 2015 Nex5 is announced before my invite is sent...

And that's what I'm waiting for too, is the next nexus. I've got my money ready for one or the other. And I'm pretty sure once you have an invite, you only get 24 hours to redeem it.

I actually like the invite system. People complain when they order their phone, then have to wait up to eight weeks to actually get it (iPhone 6 anyone?). This way you don't have to give them your money until they are ready to get you one.

With an iPhone, even if I order one and it's on backorder, I will be guaranteed to get one.

If I want a OnePlus phone, then I might not get the opportunity to order one for months--if ever.

Why would I wait for an indefinite amount of time to see if I MIGHT have an opportunity to get a phone that I am interested in using?

Point is, people will complain no matter what. At least this way you keep your money a bit longer, and can just not order it if you find out it's a dog.

You're forgetting the third option: You give them your money and get the phone RIGHT AWAY. Examples include: Alcatel Idol 3, Zenfone 2, Moto G 2015 and numerous other phones that have been released this year with a proper retail system. Clearly it can be done. They shouldn't even announce the phone until they have sufficient stock to have proper sales.

No, it's not a good thing. It needs to die.

ok, the question is asked in a way that i have to say no, albeit i don't dislike it either, but of course it would be better to just walk into a shop and buy.
if you asked whether i like the system for what it does, because it's has a big part in the fact that this device does not cost 150-200 bucks more, i must say yes, it's a deal and therefore i don't outrightly dislike it. it's more of an necessary evil LOL

Yea but if this device was $500 or $600, it would need terrible buy.
Actually, the wait list is currently over one million.

I don't think the invite system is too bad. It clearly allows then to handle inventory better. Even if there is a component of creating an exclusive phone/experience, doesn't that make it more special when you DO finally get it?

I can't wait to buy it, even if I need to wait for an invite 😊

What I won't do is spend hours and hours trying to win a contest and solicit all my friends on social media to vote for me. That is not something I am interested in doing.

Nah, you're not the only one.

I dislike it, personally, because the way it is executed leaves a lot to be desired.

The invite system is fine, but honestly I have no desire to wait and if, when, possibly I can get one I have 24 hours to consider it. But if they did offer up a pre-order system for say 100,000 units that didn't include the 30-50x more that they added to this years launch they could have had a steady stream of orders to process and deliver on.

I have seen comments imply they are backed by a major company but I haven't seen who that company is. So if they have a big backer why can't they make more or have a faster assembly process. Moto can turn around a Moto Maker device in a couple days, I had ordered on a Thursday night and had it by Tuesday the next week with it shipping on a Monday.

They are their own company. The CEO is the former vice president of OPPO, which is owned by BBK Electronics in China.

According to the Chinese government's documentation, the only institutional stockholder in OnePlus is OPPO, although the CEO has denied that OnePlus is a wholly owned subsidiary of OPPO. So take that however you wish. Officially, they are not owned by anyone.

In theory, an invite system sounds good for a smaller company in its infancy.

They know exactly how many people want their phone and they can make to order, reducing manufacturing costs as they don't have to make a ton of phones and thus, don't have to risk having a warehouse full of unsold devices (like the Galaxy S5). It also provides an orderly method like a queue, basically a "first come, first serve" method, where the first to come is the first to be served, unless that person may have made a reservation. It's not as good as buying a phone outright in the conventional way, but in theory, an invite should make things orderly.

Sadly, the way OnePlus has handled it is nothing like how I mentioned. You basically get a spot, but you're not guaranteed that spot. So let's say you're in a pool of 100,000 guys and you're in spot #1500. You've got that early spot and everyone else is late. One day later, you're at spot #15,000, because some guys behind you managed to spam referral links in other places. The next day, you're at spot #50,000.

I personally think that the whole referral system is making this whole invite system pretty messy and I would personally either buy an invite off someone or the phone itself off Swappa (might be used). Personally, it's not worth my time to be sitting in front of a computer and keep sending referral links to maintain my place in the queue. I've got better things to do than that and I'm personally not that desperate to get a $389 phone, especially when there are other similar offerings out there like the Moto X 2015.

I am like 111,000 position and somehow it's increasing. I am thinking that phone may be available for me on Christmas if I am lucky. It will be like after all flagship release. I am waiting for nexus 5/6 to release.

I'm going to like the invite system a lot if I get one because I'm going to sell it on eBay. :D

How do you check your position on the wait list? I logged in and it told me nothing. I know I decided to sign up somewhere in the mid 850k range and its now over 2 million and growing.

The real question is how many of the wait listers are actually going to convert into sales?

They should switch to a straightforward preorder system. The OnePlus Two doesn't appeal to me because as much as I like my OnePlus One I would like a smaller phone and one with SD support next time around. And NFC!
