The ongoing animosity between Google and Amazon has just been kicked up a notch. The screenshot below is an email I received this morning.

The Amazon Appstore has always been a subpar experience for me. Their app selection is pretty awful, with lots of low quality games, and the apps there often get updates much later than their counterparts on the Play Store (since the devs have to submit updates separately to each app store, and many devs don't have the resources or motivation to do so). Oh well.

Saw this thread as I was posting in the AC News thread.

This sounds like the beginning o the other way around too. Completely blocking native Android apps for those with Fire devices. Bad move on their part IMO.

They aren't amazing but are good value for what they are, or rather were. This is going to turn their devices back into e-readers with internet, which they've now stripped downloading of too.

They are on a war path.

I also received this email this morning.

The only thing that bothers me is that I have several free games from the Amazon App Store on my old Tab s3. They were from some promo Amazon ran, like, free app of the day. The games are license checked every so often & without a functioning App Store, the games won't load. So there won't be much I can do with my Tab s3. It basically has been just a toy with none of my accounts or apps logged into, except the Amazon app store.

Oh well ... moving on. 😄

Is the dev still around? I've had some success in the past working with me. Obviously don't (and having seen your posts I don't think you would) be entitled or hostile.

I remember those free app says, man, that takes me back. I forgot that even ever existed.

Surprising however that they need to phone home in the first place. Err I don't know how to give advice without getting banned lol

Thanks ☺️

I think a few are available in Google Play. I could always buy a couple & put them on a newer tablet. I just wanted to get some use out of that old tablet.

We'll see if I even miss those games. 😉

I never used the Amazon App Store so have a couple of questions regarding it. Did it also offer paid apps/games and could users on normal Android devices sideload Amazon App Store and then say, purchase apps from there instead? If that were the case, wouldn't those users be kind of be left in the middle now?

Yes, it was an app store for Android. While most Android computers did not come with it pre-installed, Amazon allowed and encourage people to install it on their computers (via sideloading).
