Seems to me like these are becoming more and more useless...
In case you weren't aware, these "free" apps expire after some time.
After they expire, when you try to use them, instead of the app launching you get a message saying the app has expired.
Also, if you remove the Amazon App Store you get a message saying "it looks like you uninstalled the Amazon App Store" instead of the app launching.

If an app is purchased from the Amazon Appstore that uses Amazon DRM, then the Amazon Appstore must be installed for the app to run.I don't think they expire. I believe you MUST have the Appstore installed to use any of Amazon apps for DRM.

No, it is not required. When you submit your app you can choose to offer your app DRM free or you can apply Amazon DRM.

Any app that has Amazon DRM applied to it will require users to have installed and signed-in to the Amazon Appstore client to access the app.
