Amazon Chromecast Shipments not until 21 August...

Late to the party. Ordered mine from Amazon on July 29. Just received an email indicating that it may be shipped between Oct 18 and Nov 8. Would order from Google Play instead but the tax and shipping add up to nearly 8 bucks!

Also just cancelled Amazon order and just ordered it from the Play store. I dont need it that bad but waiting until October is too long to wait.

My order placed on July 26. Latest update from Amazon was for delivery between Oct 18 and Nov 6 !!!! WOW! in addition to the delay, the window of delivery is 3 weeks. This is also significant. It shows that really they have no clue when it will be available or when they will be shipping.

I had an online chat this morning with Amazon. They simply apologized and offered me to cancel if I wanted and buy from one of the other Amazon Vendors. Yeah right! these other guys are selling it for $96 hahaha.

Also I found a blog which suggests that Google may have a "Legal" issue with the name "Chromecast" because there is already a website out there with this registered name Chromecast - Enterprise infrastructure and media solutions.

I wish Google came out with a clear announcement explaining and clarrifying what the issue is and when themselves AND their other vendors (Amazon, BestBuy) will be getting stock to be delivered.

Same scenario for me. Ordered early morning July 25th. Wont see it until mid-October. Called and complained to Amazon. Not much help there. That's what we all get for buying from faceless Internet retailers. They really don't care about the customer.

I'm not sure what you'd expect them to do? They can't ship items they don't have, and obviously Google has modified whatever the original time-table was for them to get items to ship. It's easy to cancel the order, but you can't really expect them to have the ability to do much more in this situation. I actually appreciate the fact that they have provided estimates as they have become available, as disappointing as that information has been...and I appreciate the fact that I was able to easy cancel my order when I found the shipping estimate too far out.

It's not like they're sitting on a warehouse full of them and refusing to ship the item.

I ordered mine on the evening of July 24, about 11:30 pm EST. The next day word passes that the Netflix deal was dead and Amazon orders before 5:30 would get it. Oh well. Then I get the email some days later about the estimated August 21 shipping date.

Then about a week ago I got an email that I would be getting the Netflix deal. That's nice, but I need a Chromecast to use it. Well, Monday I got a note that they'd be shipping earlier and Tuesday it shipped. It arrived today and I got the email with the Netflix code.

I ordered mine from Amazon.com on July 26th at 9:15am. This is the communication I've received:

July 26th: Unknown Ship Date
August 3rd: Estimated Arrival: August 21st
August 6th: Nevermind, Unknown Ship Date again!
August 8th: Estimated Arrival: October 17th to 30th

Are you kidding! lol

I went ahead and ordered one on Google Play just in case...despite the fact that unlike Amazon, I have to pay for tax and shipping...it's just an extra $6 and if it comes even a week earlier, it's worth it. Now I wish I would have ordered one from both stores from the beginning...I want at LEAST 2 of these things eventually...

The issue is I ordered it on July 25th before 9:00AM. Since I was going to let it ship for free they held my order until they felt like shipping it. By that time they were out of stock and put me at the end of the queue. I spoke to them and they freely admitted that by selecting free shipping they don't reserve the item for you. You are subject to availability when they get around to pulling your order. This important piece of info is not anywhere on their website. As they get them in stock they are shipping them to people that ordered later than I did but chose faster shipping. Clearly this shows they are making profit on the shipping and will handle "non-free" shipments first.

Bet 99% of Amazon customers don't know that.

Just got this email from Amazon

Dear Amazon.com Customer,

Thank you for your recent Chromecast purchase. Earlier today, you received an email indicating an incorrect estimated order delivery of late October. We are actively fulfilling orders weekly based on customer order date and all customers who placed orders prior to August 7 should receive their orders in the coming weeks and into mid-September. We will notify you as soon as your item ships and apologize for the confusion.

We hope to see you again soon!

So what is going to happen first....an email saying my Chromecast has shipped, or an email changing the delivery date again?

My money is on the latter. I wonder if this wasn't simply Amazon trying to get a ton of people to cancel their orders so they could hopefully fulfill their orders before Christmas.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I kept my order instead of cancelling and ordered another one through Google Play store. I just placed the order through the Play store yesterday, so we'll see which one arrives first.

I placed my order through the play store on July 25th in the afternoon. Received the unit on the 7th of August.

Lovin' this thing.

I too got this message a few hours ago. I checked my order status on Amazon however and it says "DELIVERY ESTIMATE: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2013 - WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2013 BY 8:00PM". I'm betting I won't have a box in my hand until Christmas!

Just checked with Amazon via chat. Seems that the email is sent in error, and there is no way they can have stock to send out before October.....
Arrghhh

Not sure if it is something to do with me selecting free shipping, and that places me at the back of the queue

I can confirm that amazon reps are saying the email was in error. Strangely I still have a little tag at the bottom of my order reiterating the email and that it will ship soon if it was ordered before august 7. Oddly I felt like they where trying to get me to cancel my order. I guess they realize they are so over ordered that they feel it's better for the costumer to cancel since there is no way they could fulfill all of the orders.

I'm going to keep the order open because at this point I don't know which info to believe. I think I will order one from Google play and see I can race them and see who ships first as well

My Amazon order was just updated to say I should be receiving it by August 15th. My original order was placed July 25th and I chose free shipping. One of the Amazon reps did upgrade my shipping to next day during one of our chats. I'm not holding my breath but we'll see when (if) this shows up.

Should point out that I was corresponding via email and that they seemed to be mostly made up of pre-written canned responses. It's entirely possible they themselves have no idea/didn't bother to look up my specific account and just sent out a pre-approved responses for the larger chromecast shortage issue.

I'm going try a live chat latter today and see if I can get some clarification or any comment on the email apologizing for the mix up about shipping in October.
