Ambient Display Performance

Under the adaptive display setting it says explicitly "wake screen when you pick up device or receive notification." So for me, it's been working perfectly as it's supposed to. Coming from a 2014 Moto X, I do miss just being able to bump or rock the phone. But realistically, I use it just for the notifications.
Where is the "adaptive display setting"? I don't have that in my display menu. There is the toggle for Ambient Display, but performance isn't reliable, especially when your poorly designedscreen protector is covering the proximity sensor.

OK. Well the purpose of the OP was not to figure out how the feature is turned on. The purpose was to see if people were having issues getting the feature to function reliably.

Apparently your comprehension is a little off. Because no where did I say in my post how to turn it on. I explained that according to the description of ambient display, for me, it was working as it should. Which relates exactly to the last 2 sentences of your OP.

No need to be rude. We can all be civil.

Not as good as Moto X. I turned it off and rely on LED notifications and Light Flow

Moto's implementation was (as everyone has pointed out) really spot on. It's really the biggest thing I miss from my Droid Turbo... waving a simple hand over the phone to view the ambient display was perfect.

I've noticed my 6p is actually very consistent as long as you realize it is not (I don't think) using a front facing sensor. It will pretty much always show the ambient display if you rotate it from level to vertical (90 degrees). Rotating it this way (which I guess they assume is "picking it up"), will activate the ambient display.

My problem is that i usually don't pick up my phone this way... I simply pick it up and hold it still horizontal as I look at it.

At any rate, if people are having trouble, try picking it up to 90 degrees and it should work well.
