Android 12L vs Android 13: What is the relationship?

I follow Android on a general level but I haven't got a grasp of this.

What is the relationship between Android 12L (beta 3) and Android 13 (currently DP1)? I have been under the impression that 12L is for tablets and foldables but based on what I read, it can be installed on a Pixel 6.

Is 12L going to become a point release for everyone, for example 12.1? Then around the fourth quarter of 2022, after the DPs and betas, the next update will be to Android 13?

Agree. But I'm starting to wonder if "beta" should just be added onto the name of the Pixel 6. Pixel 6 Beta.
