Android 2.2 for Fascinate

trying to check for system update and for some reason i am getting a force closure "The application Settings(process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"

reboot and reboot again getting the same FC ... any idea?

What ROM are you using?

I'm pretty sure ir was removed from the Blackhole ROM since its probably better to wait for a CWM .zip

Im using JT's and looks like InnoPath Activecare is not present causing the system update to fc. any fix on this?

Fixed.

Just grab mobileupdateclient.apk from the Fascinate system dump, place on your SDcard, and move (with Root Explorer) to /system/app.

Download Fascinate system dump here

Just remember, you must be off of wifi and on the network to check and download OTA updates.

This is becoming ridiculous. I got this particular android phone because it was released across 3 (at least) carriers, so there should be some leverage towards updates. Instead, this galaxy S is mired in total software anarchy with nothing but the safety net from end-users like the ones on this forum.

I'm incredibly disappointed in the bluetooth, the total lack of central messaging (which the storm 1 did at launch), trialware, bloatware, adware... holy crap is this what "smartphones" are becoming??

I want to nuke this whole software package from orbit and put on what I want, like we could do with the Storm 1.

Dude, I've had the Storm1 for two yrs and couldn't wait to get an Android phone. Being on VZW I chose FASN8 for the HW, screen and rootability.

My bluetooth has worked fine so far with my Motorola T505 hands free car speaker. Your warez *****ing, though, is totally justified but personally I didn't care too much about that stuff. Like I said, I got the phone for the HW cuz the SW is correctable, the HW is not, know what I mean? Sure the Bing thing is a PITA and wrong and so corporate that it makes you want to burn down buildings but so what? The community guyz solved that in a few hours and THAT'S what Android is all about. It is what it is. 'sides, how many truly open and free and unfettered Google phones are there? Not too many.

In any case, the point I wanted to make is Android is quite a bit different from BB and as such you'll find that Android is awesome but that doesn't mean BB doesn't do some things better like central msging. After all, BB is designed for business functionality.

Give it some more time to get the know Android and what you've got, which is a pretty amazing and powerful device. I'm just starting to get into the Tasker app which is just crazy awesome and unbelievable.

I mean c'mon, the Storm was practically legacy as soon as it hit the streets. The AppWorld market or whatever its called (dont remember anymore) is embarrassing. And I had to get an app to reboot it every night because the memory management is so poor.

All that being said, it would be nice to get the freaking Froyo already. :p Its easy to be impatient - guilty as charged here.

@ amante nj
were you able to install the update and what was the update?

It was probably the intermittent update that was rolled out quite a while back. My Fascinate is only 3 weeks old, but that update had not been installed on the device out of the box.

Dear Samsung,

If you ever expect me to buy another one of your phones you had better get this Froyo upgrade out by 3/15. Not soon. 3/15. That the limit of my patients.

Frustrated Samsung user.

Welcome to Android Central!

And dang you must have dug this thread out of the attic lol

same as every one else tired of waiting

I got this phone expecting greatness. Well I got Bing and the infamous soon on 2.2. I love the phone and recommend it to everyone who is looking to buy a new phone. I am just tired of waiting for something everyone else has that we also should have. I told myself that i was going to wait to root my phone until 2.2 came out. well I'm still waiting for that. I would like to know what rooting is like as i probably wont ever see it. i like the phone but would like to update it SOON. LOL when i get to root it i will get rid of the bing stuff and learn what the phone really has to offer.

Rooting and being able to customize your phone is a lot of fun. And rooting has now basically become quick and painless. DrodXcon has put together some great and really easy all-in-one ODIN packages that require only a few simple steps on your part. You can read about them here:

And if you want to get a basic understanding of rooting your phone and what some of the terminology is give this a read:

I walked into a verizon store today because I rooted and screwed up, was hoping they could hook it up and do a factory reset to the phone software. They can't but the guy that was looking at my phone kept saying the update was just announced and would take some time before it was pushed to everyones phone. WTF!!! I am not asking about an update, but did he drop some new news. Is there an update looming or is that just a stock answer for anyone walking in with a fascinate. Anyhoo I fixed my phone using ODIN and the files from XDA so it is up and running and just updated to EA28. Now will wait and see if there is some news about an official 2.2 release.

Wouldn't get my hopes up based on what you heard in a Verizon store. If there was any real news it would've been leaked... somewhere at least a day in advance. They probably told you that to keep you passive about it.

I just saw on Twitter VZ said it will be out "soon". I asked them how soon soon will be. This is the first time Ive seen them say anything other than we have no idea. Maybe a good sign?
