Android 3.0

Personally, I don't see the point in bringing back a phone you otherwise like due to rumors that it might not get an update to 3.0, based on rumors that there are hardware requirements for it at all. Also, I disagree with those that say rooting and flashing are complicated/time consuming. The first time I rooted and flashed my Captivate, it took 2 hours to go from stock, to rooted, backed up, and running a custom, Froyo filled ROM.

glad it went well for you, but it really depends on someone's experience level.

there a plenty of people who don't know what root is or why to root, but feel they have to and those people could run into trouble if they don't understand what they're doing or what they could potentially do to their phone.

it's not hard per se, but without the proper amount of self research and knowledge before going into it, one could easily run into trouble.

Rooting your phone is scary on the fascinate right now. It's not like running an app from the market. That said its fairly idiot proof and is the best bet to get the latest software. I'm sure someone will come out with a 3.0 rom for the fascinate. Heck, the hero has a froyo rom yet Sprint didn't upgrade that phone.

Well obviously you need to do your research, I had to research the proper steps and such. What I'm saying is if you have a good guide, and perform the steps right, it really isn't too time consuming or difficult. The biggest threat is not using a good how-to.

very valid point, i just wanted to futureproof as much as possible because once i have it im stuck with it for the 2 years

that's odd, personally i have not experienced that either before or after voodoo...

i think im just unlucky, my gps which was locking crapped out on me again and i lag randomly in doing actions that seem to cause no lag for anyone else. think it could be launcher pro plus causing the lag?

*Edit I don't know how to quote two people in one post which is why i keep posting back to back. If someone could inform me that'd be great

the little gray button next to quote is the multi quote button, click those on the posts you want to quote then click reply at the bottom of the page and all the quotes will be in the body of the reply.

i've been using launcher pro plus since i got the phone (the fun of tw wore off after about 15minutes, i like a lot of the other stuff they put in the phone, but their launcher sucks as i don't want an iphone :p) so i don't think that's your problem.

have you tried a factory wipe? are you using any task killers?

i do agree that rooting and even flashing CW isn't very difficult and has a very low risk of messing up your phone, installing something like voodoo in its current state has quite a high likelihood of messing up one's phone beyond an average or even slightly above average user's ability to fix it quickly.

all i'm saying is one should be very well informed about the dangers and the procedures they're doing before starting them. :)

as for the subject of future roms, hopefully samsung will be doing a better job of giving us the source for our phones so devs can build a kernel faster.

okay i don't know what happen, but with all but the slightest bit of hope lost i tried my gps out one more time and was able to get a lock in about 30 seconds with 700m, it then told me to turn on my wifi for more accuracy and I locked after like 10 seconds to 60 meters of accuracy. still not that great but at least im not getting "your location is not available"

Edit* however that was with standalone gps, vzw location services, and google location services enable. I'd like to get a lock with standalone gps being the only option enabled because that is what i can toggle from the homescreen

Edit* Well i decided to give the gps a test run now that it started to work. I ran a couple blocks from where my apartment is and it locked me in about 3 seconds at 449 7th street and i was standing outside 450. Very accurate. Next i decided to stand outside my own apartment. I live at 733 Jefferson, it nabbed me at 726. Again very accurate being that 727 Jefferson's front door is about a foot and a half from mine. 726 being across the street. This took about five seconds. I disabled the gps for both tests and then enabled it when i wanted it to find my location. What i did to get it to initially lock was enable all 3 gps services available. It took about 5 minutes to lock my location while hanging off of my balcony. From that point on just enabling standalone gps locked in about 5 seconds or less. I don't know why you must enable all three initially when you go for your first ever lock, but once you do standalone works like a charm. So glad i don't have to pay vzw a visit now that we are prime candidates for gingerbread and my gps now works

Once you get a lock, for some period of time afterward you will get locks almost instantly even if you turn the phone OFF and then back ON again (same with turning GPS ON/OFF). That only lasts so long before you're right back to having to wait a few minutes for a lock (I don't know how long you have to wait to 'lose' your lock). I think this is why you see sooooo many posts like "I did XXXX and it fixed my GPS!!!!!" It appears that in almost every case (if not every one of them) they didn't do anything to 'fix' their GPS, they were just getting instant locks because it was already locked from futzing with it.
