Once again we are reminded why Verizon sucks. How long before they release the update. Do iPhone users have this same issue with OS updates?

true.... but on the other hand, Im reminded how nice verizon is everytime my coworker with tmobile answers his phone and has to walk into a different room just to keep the call from dropping :)

If past history is any indicator, I would say it's probably going to be 2 months before we see it. I will say one good thing about VZW taking its time is that a lot of the app incompatibility bugs get worked out. When my N7 got upgraded to 4.2.2, I had all kinds of force closes from apps, but by the time VZW released it, everything was fixed.

My only question is if I will have a Moto X by the time this is released.

I just hope 4.3 isn't the FINAL update from Verizon. :( I'm sure GSM Galaxy Nexus will continue to get updates beyond Android 5.0. :)

I would bet that Android 5.0 is the last update for the Galaxy Nexus, either variety. At that point the hardware will be two years old.

Is the Nexus S still getting updates?
No the Nexus S is done with Android 4.1.x

As far as Verizon and the GNex... This isn't new... Same goes for Sprint and their version of the GNex. Its all about the LTE proprietary files/licensing that they hold and the delays of getting it into AOSP. Verizon was actually a step ahead of Sprint and eventually gave in and got some AOSP recognition for the GNex. Sprint however has held out completely on releasing the important goods, thus leaving the Sprint GNex still on Android 4.2.1 verses Verizon's GNex has official 4.2.2.

I have a gut feeling that the GNex will finish up on Android 4.3. Maybe I'm wrong though.

It seems Verizon 4.3 binaries are already post on the developer site. Maybe the wait won't be that long.

With the droid branding now exclusive to Motorola devices and Google owning Motorola maybe that got them some leverage with Verizon seeing how Verizon loves there droid brand.

I'm hoping the galaxy nexus is supported on Verizon until either a Google stops supporting it or b a new nexus device is released on Verizon. A tall order no doubt.

It sucks.... on the one hand VZW has the best reception and fastest network in my area.....on the other there are no new Nexus devices, no google edition devices, no cheap out of contract options, late updates and it's expensive even with a discount... maybe Moto X will save the day. Until then I'm hoping my GNEX does not die and patiently waiting for 4.3.

The wait is over, apparently:

Android 4.3 ROM Coming Straight From Source Now Available for Verizon Galaxy Nexus | Androidheadlines.com

We published an article earlier today explaining that because the Android 4.3 binaries for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus are already available from Google, it could be extremely easy to cook up a working custom ROM for the device. Well now, as expected, the first of these ROMs have surfaced.

User baldwinguy77 over at RootzWiki has released an Android 4.3 ROM for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

I just checked it see if there was a 4.3 factory image yet and there is not. But yes the ROM cookers have already come through.

No, iPhone users get iOS updates directly from Apple and not the carrier. And along with the other issues that HATE about Android, this is one of the reasons why I'm trying to trade my brand new Galaxy Nexus for another iPhone 5. Android ain't cutting it for me.

Your brand new Galaxy Nexus?????? Why do you have a brand new GN. We all know by now that Verizon does not sell any Nexus devices.

Remember that iOS is a proprietary software and Verizon simply has no access to the OS itself.

However, that means Apple has to collaborate with Verizon to make sure its iPhones work on the carrier's network. Verizon is a partner to Apple just like it is to Google. Basically you are waiting for Verizon to provide software to Apple anyway. Having said that, Apple can pressure them to provide it on a timely manner and set hard deadlines for development and testing.

Whereas in the Android land, Google pushes only OS updates and lets others work on their own timetables for their own specific implementations. Given that carriers have little incentive to debug and push updates, Apple's approach works better. But not everyone's Apple and not everyone can strong-arm carriers.

Thanks so much for the link! This finally pushed me over the edge and after 18 months I've finally unlocked/rooted my phone, installed this as a custom ROM, and am enjoying loads of root only features/4.3
