Android 4.3

Do iPhone users have this same issue with OS updates?

yes, they just don't notice it because Apple waits until all carriers are ready to drop anything.
Other carriers would already have iOS 7 if Apple did it the way Google does.

I hope 4.3 fixes the bluetooth problems introduced in 4.2. I had a friend help me revert back to 4.1.1 so that bluetooth works properly. Now I have to put up with the OS update pop-ups 20 times a day...

They have 4.3 ROMs on XDA and Rootzwiki. I'm running "Shiny" from Rootzwiki and I can say that the ROM itself is nice. It is the boot that is the problem. After the first boot I can't reboot again because of bootloops. It doesn't affect everyone but it does enough. I have the newest boot loader (D04) and it is maddening. I have to adb command my way out of it.

Well, it sucks that Verizon has their hands tied due to the nature of their network but it's nothing new. I'm on Verizon purely by necessity. AT&T would probably work fine for me (heavy travel) but I boycott them for personal reasons and I refuse to cave in or give them another chance.

The VZW GNex still gets support directly from Google, and guys, that's awesome. The update may not come OTA but come on, give Google some props for not leaving us out and still giving people with a small amount of technical know how the chance to run 4.3. The GNex is the only reason I'm on Verizon and not communicating via Carrier Pigeon! ;)

Boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. Works everytime. Yes this is the worse part about that ROM, but I am still running it because its very smooth and everything else has been great.

Coming from AOKP M2, "shiny" 4.3 stock is a breathe of fresh air. I always say that with new versions of Android and there is no doubt there is a bit of placebo going on, but there is a constant "stiff" operation in the OS I usually only see on an Apple device. I am totally willing to give up the customization's of custom ROM's for excellent operation, but who's to say AOKP on 4.3 won't be as good? I always felt a dual core phone with a gig of RAM should operate better than it was, and at points it has. With recent versions of Android though the GNex got worse and worse until 4.3 and the phone finally put a smile on my face.

Did you do a full data/dalvic/cache wipe before you loaded the ROM? Also did you flash the boot loader first in order? Also what recovery MOD and version are you using? Just curious cause I am using the latest version of shiny and I came form the stock 4.2.2 image (Yes boot unlocked, and rooted) right to the July 25th version of Shiny. I have the latest TWRP for GN, and I wiped everything. Loaded in the install queue the Boot loader, Shiny ROM, and ROOT flash. Everything has been rocking for me!

The Google Play Editions are now getting 4.3, Verizon Galaxy Nexus......nope. Thanks Verizon

Its up to Verizon to release it or not, and its their decision whether to end support for the device. Seeing as Google would need their proprietary CDMA files to be able to update it themselves. Its the same way on sprint, and it's why I skipped the CDMA gnex.

This same old argument? That's why you got a Nexus. Unlock the bootloader and flash a 4.3 ROM a month ago already.

You think you'll see kitkat too huh? LoL! I'll be flashing kk within a week of release on my GNex.

The question is, will a single core processor with 1gb of ram designed for 4.0 be able to effectively run 4.3. Only time will tell.

That's not why I got the Nexus.
Stock Android from Google, not some kludge from an amateur

Stock Android from Google is AOSP. There are plenty of ROMs built off straight AOSP that will provide an exact experience to what is released from Google because it is the same. You think Google builds their releases different than these "amateurs"?

kludge from an amateur seriously?

And as we have seen you don't get stock android from Google on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

Its a dual core and if you've been running 4.3 for the past month there wouldn't be a question as to whether it can run 4.4.

Edit: The Kitkat statue was unveiled two weeks ago? The release is usually within the month of the new statue and I imagine 4.4 will be released with the N5 and N10 refresh and is usually pushed to AOSP with 24 hrs and a build usually pops up within 48 hrs. so I'll probably be on 4.4 while you all are still asking and wondering what 4.3 is like.

OK, I'm not a rom'er or a flasher - i just want the best most updated version of android on the phone I spent a lot of money on; which is what I thought I'd get from VZW. They are silent on the matter of course. The phone is long out of inventory, and come December I believe a lot of people will upgrade from it, leaving even less of a reason for VZW to care about it and us.

Rather than flexing and posturing - does anyone have any real insight or at least and educated theory about when and if this phone will get updated to either 4.3 or 4.4?

And, if VZW is not going to put any more time and attention to this phone what do you think of a noob actually trying to update this thing himself. Forgive me but I know NOTHING about how to do it. I'm not as worried about voiding warranty as I am bricking the thing and then being without a lifeline to the world. Can anyone point me to an ***** proof guide on how to unlock the phone and then put a new rom on it?

Thanks.

really? " i d i o t " got censored?
