Android 5.0 update forAT&T Galaxy Alpha (G850A) is out

Gear S now only connects remotely even though both devices say they're paired via Bluetooth. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Simple disconnect and reconnect solved it.

So far the color scheme, and the email notifications on my lock screen are the most irritating. I know I can't change the colors, but what about the email notification? Like it gives part of the email on the lock screen.

It is configurable in Settings->Sounds and Notifications->Notifications on lock screen. Actually, when 1st boot up the phone after upgrade, it asks you whether to show all contents, hide contents or non on lock screen.

Hey all,

I have a friend who isn't so up to date with rooting/ROMs, etc, just wants to use his phone and get the best useable one for his needs. Hence, he went with the Alpha. He got an OTA update for Lollipop and now has a barely functioning phone.

What's the consensus at this point? I know it's pretty knew with ATT, but does anyone know what the options are? Should he go to or call ATT? (while a possibility, the people in mobile stores rarely know what the hell they are talking about...) Should he try a factory reset? Will that bring the previous version back? From Kit Kat, maybe getting rooted and using a clean version of Lollipop will help? Any help is appreciated.

sps

I received that update yesterday, and wish I never had. Texting no longer functions properly. The phone now often freezes up. The battery drains in almost no time and all. And in general everything is extremely slow. In addition to that, I have several apps that no longer work properly. Does anyone know of a way to revert back to kit kat?

Hi, everyone, im Malaysian, i know that US AT&T had roll out lollipop on Galaxy Alpha
Can screen shoot some for me?
im waiting too long... thanks

The changes are very subtle. There are a lot of screen shots posted @ xda-developer's forum already.

I've been running for three days, battery life sux now, can't make it thru the day, and I'm not a power user: basically text, email, phone, a little Facebook and web. Anyone find any settings changes that help?

thanks, and i hear many complain about issue afterward update, feel suprise it should be bugless before roll out...

I'm finding the same thing. Battery life is estimated at a meager 2 hours of continuous use. Phone also feels much warmer. All this even though I keep the screen brightness way down.

Did you try to factory reset the fone? Bc mines got better after i did it

After the update I was shocked how fast my battery went down. I could sit and watch the percentage dwindle. I put a short charge on the phone three different times that first day and was really disappointed.

But, I charged it fully, late in the evening and without changing any setting, it is as good as ever. I've always been impressed with the battery life and still am.

I'll give it a shot.

Well, I did the factory reset. Took all night to make sure I had everything backed up (and I may have lost some app data that, so far, won't restore. Also had to reset my Gear S in order to re-pair it. Bit of a nightmare if you ask me. It's too early to tell if it solved anything since the phone has been re-downloading and installing apps most of the night and this morning. I hope it worked.
No matter what the outcome, we shouldn't have to go through any of this! I've been more than understanding about the difficulties of making sure every flavor of Android works with every flavor of every make and model of phone, but this got to me. I would rather have stuck with Kit-Kat than go through that reset.
Keep your fingers crossed that I no longer have to watch my battery run down by the minute as my phone heats up!

i have a galaxy alpha sm-g850a but currently have it on crickets network, will i still be able to get the update ?

I've been using Lollipop for a week now and have noticed the battery draining a lot faster than with Kit Kat. The battery didn't last a full day over the weekend. Gonna try some app adjustments and see if it helps. Any suggestions for any battery saving apps? Juice Defender??

I got the update one week ago too. The battery drain was ridiculous and the phone would get dangerously hot -- routinely close to 100°. Nothing seemed to help.
As I posted above , I went for the factory reset. It was a bear making sure everything was backed up. Between that, the reset, reinstalling apps and restoring files and data, it took all night and into the next day. Ugh!
After a couple of days though, I think I can say things have improved. I don't sense the overheating any more, and there's some improvement in battery life.
However, I don't think the battery life is fully back to where it was before the update. I'm guessing that at least some of the battery drain is just the cost of getting updated. I hope I'm wrong!
Let us know if you come up with another culprit.
