Android 7.1.2

Yes, this just happened to me too. Very strange. I posted earlier that when I tried to sideload the OTA last weekend it wouldn't let me because it said that I couldn't sideload an earlier version of Android. And now this.

I just un-enrolled from the beta program after downloading the OTA of the stable version of 7.1.2 (N2G47H). I then powered off, went into recovery mode and cleared the cache. After all of that, it's no longer trying to get me to "update" to the beta version.

Guys I installed the update to the stable version and it did not ask me to go back to an earlier version. I wonder if they fixed that flow already. Everything seems to be good here on my end. I did however, wipe the cache partition and cleared the cache memory on my phone as well.

N2G47H is the stable channel with 5 Apr 2017 security patch. So, I say yes just no to the beta NPG47I (1.3GB) 5 Mar 2017 security patch.

Anyone attempt a factory reset with this new version? If so have you seen an improvement in battery and performance prior to factory reset? I've had some issues recently and considering a reset...

Yeah, I'm the same as chezm, my battery and perf has gone downhill, big-time, since 7.12 OTA.
Having come from 6, through 7 (and the 7.1 Beta), 7.11, and now 7.12, this is the first build I've seen issues like this, same device, same apps (give or take, I went back and made sure I uninstalled the two apps I'd added since 7.12, no change).

I'd rather not reset, but I'm barely making it through a day now, whereas before (moderate use) I had no issues, even on heavy-use days I could make it, consistently.

I did do a reset, and it helped a bit, but the battery still drains like mad if the cell connection is weak. It's very strange that my big old Nexus 6 has significantly better and more stable battery stats than this. I've gotta assume/hope that the May update will even out some of this behavior.

I think this is a Bluetooth issue that has been known since 7.1.1. Turn off instant tethering (Settings>Google>Instant Tethering) and Scanning (Settings>Location>Menu).

Hi all,

I got the update to 7.1.2 (N2G47H) about a week ago, and now my 6P is randomly freezing. It happens pretty often, actually; the screen will be unresponsive to touch (including the bottom nav bar) and the power button. It will usually become responsive again in ~a minute, but it's certainly annoying.

Anyone else have this issue and/or know how to address it?

TIA

The standard list of solutions:
- clear the application caches (Settings -> Storage -> Cached data) [this doesn't affect your data]
- clear the system cache in Recovery mode [this doesn't affect your data]
- perform a Factory Reset and setup as a new device

Until you've tried these things it's pointless to wonder about what else might be going on.

About the only time I see the behavior you describe is when my phone is in the car being used for navigation while it's charging and it's sunny out - then the phone gets pretty toasty.

Hmm, I already had Location on "battery saving", the minimalist mode, but I can't find this setting for "Instant Tethering"?
I poked around under the Google settings (per GSDer, there are a lot of things under there that I wasn't keeping track of.
I looked under the Networking, Instant Apps, and quite a few others, no luck?

I don't recall a way to "search settings", like on Win/WinPhone, where I can use a partial match to find a setting(s)?

Thanks for a pointer here, I'd sure appreciate it...

It's under the "Google" listing about 5 or 6 items down from "Location" on your Settings page. On my phone "Instant Tethering" is the 8th item in the "Services" section of these "Google" settings.

Weird, I wonder why mine's different, stock 7.12 on my 6P?

I see "Ads" as my 8th service, bounded by "Android Pay" and "App Preview Messages".
"Instant Tethering" is definitely NOT in the list, or under Networking and some others I've tried (thinking it might be another level deep).

I wonder if others have some plug-in or similar installed, to see this?

That's seems weird to me, too. The Services list should be in alphabetical order. "Ads" should be the first item under the "Services" heading. On mine, "Instant Tethering" shows up between "Google Fit" and "Location."

Agreed, it's strange, the ordering.
Mine starts with "Smart Lock for Passwords", then "Location", up until item 6 "Restore contacts".
Then it appears to be alphabetical from there on out, starting with Ads.

No item for the "Instant tethering" though, it's not exactly a "huge" list, maybe 15 items or so, so it'd be fairly easy to spot.
I wonder what I have set, that's disabling it? I do typically run "data saver" and "battery saver", daily, unless I'm tethering, or trying to view a data-intensive site or something, it seems to be the one combo that keeps my battery under control, sort of...

This makes it sound like it would be a good thing, disabling my tethering after 10 minutes of non-use, but it also makes it sound like it's tied to "carrier services", so possibly it's a per-carrier feature?
I know AT&T doesn't support RCS on the 6P, really most carriers don't at this time.
