Android 8.0 update cannot mount to USB 3.0

Weird, I was just dumping a bunch of stuff on my wife's 6P yesterday, using 3.0 (2 hubs deep, the PC hub/faceplate and a secondary), and it worked flawlessly.
I did have to choose PTP or File Transfer though, manually, whereas I'm pretty sure before it "trusted" my PC, after the first connection.
Edit: this could be a USB 3.0 driver issue, in particular if your chipset vendor or OEM did a poor job of adding feature or something, and are failing to properly forward metadata, or similar.

The "trust" thing is weird though, but I could see Google implementing that, it (mostly) makes sense, from a security perspective.
It's like like when you enable 3.5mm jack use while locked, it throws up a big "security warning", since it's a big, gaping security hole, at that point (not that most users even read the verbiage ;-] ).

The issue appears to be related to Android 8.0/8.1 always wanting to transfer in USB 3.1 mode using 128b/132b signalling. Therefore if your motherboard only has USB 3.0 ports that only support 8b/10b signalling, you will likely have issues, unless you use a USB 2.0 cable, which will downgrade the connection to USB 2.0 (even on a 3.0 port) and then you will be able to transfer files.

See this Google product forums thread for more information : https://productforums.google.com/fo...!msg/phone-by-google/EBTGfybo9cw/md48EI_RAgAJ

I've posted a YouTube video in that thread that demonstrates the different failure modes and combinations of USB 2.0/3.0 ports and USB 2.0/3.x cables in that thread to help others troubleshoot the issue also.

My desktop has an older mobo, and will not mount it in Windows or Linux. My laptop is newer, but only has USB 3.0, and it will mount it.

I had been trying to connect my Note 8, all updated to latest, via an Anker usb3.1 cable, to my Windows 7 pc's usb 3.0 port, but could not see it despite trying developer options and driver updates. I then tried the Samsung cable shipped with phone, and I could then see my Note 8 via the usb 3.0 port. I believe the Samsung cable is also 3.1, but am not sure.
