Android 8.1 call blocking not working

I know Android 8 is old. But it has call blocking with "Digit filter - Block calls based on the starting or ending digits in their number". I get a lot of spam calls from area code 520. I put "520" and "1520" in my digit filter list. But I still get calls from that area code. Am I misunderstanding how to use this?

Which phone? Is this an LG phone? From what I can find on the web, it sounds like Digit Filter is some built-in feature for LG phones.

What if you add a * at the end? like 1520*?

Can use DND (Do Not Disturb)
That way only favorite or contacts can reach you and others go to voicemail
