Android Central Question

I've always run Google maps on mute. I don't want it to ever talk to me. But apparently Google decided that it MUST talk to me now. With some recent update, everytime I do a search when hooked to my AA head unit, it now starts telling me about the search results.

Any idea how to turn this stupid thing off?

Welcome to Android Central! This only happens when you search Google Maps? Or are you talking about any Google Assistant search?

Open your Maps app, tap your profile pic>Settings>Navigation Settings>Google Assistant settings, and see if turning off Driving Mode helps.

It only happens when using Maps via Android Auto. And it didn't used to. But AA requires using google assistant for map searches. And "driving mode" is not currently enabled.

In the Maps interface in Android Auto, try toggling through the sound options (i.e., the speaker icon). There's an option for audible voice notifications for alerts only (as opposed to routine directions), so that might also apply to search results.

Hmm, sorry, this is hard for me to troubleshoot, since I don't have an Android Auto car system to test on. Let's see if anyone else has any ideas.

I don't know if this helps but I check in AA app and under "hey Google detection "if you tap it takes you to another menu where if u are connected maybe toggle off Google assistant while driving or look.on car screen to mute turn by turn voice guidance Screenshot_20210505-005729_Android%20Auto.jpgScreenshot_20210505-005740_Google.jpg
