Android Auto - Lots of hype but what am I missing?

I received my software upgrade to run Android Auto on my 2016 GMC Canyon, with the 8" Intellilink-Infotainment system. Besides a variety of available music apps and the graphics being more robust, I am not seeing anything more with Android Auto that isn't already included with Intellilink.
Am I missing something?

The Google-esque interaction with your car. The communication is more varied and can tell you how far the moon is. I know it sounds funny, but I love listening to audiobooks on long trips and when I hear a word that I don't understand the meaning I ask my car and it tells me. Also, I can ask when or where my next appointment is and it fetches it from my calendar and tells me/ shows me. I've had my AA for almost a year now and it's been slowly increasing it's capability. I'm looking forward to what's next.

I am connecting a Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935T) on a T-Mobile Network to an AVH-4100NEX (1.053) in a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis.
