Android auto question

I am new to Android having switched from iPhone. I use my phones gps in my truck which has android auto. The issue I have is that I am not able to find a keyboard to enter in addresses when android auto is on. My truck is a new 2017 check and everything if fine there. Can anyone tell me where I find or what I click on my trucks touch screen to bring in a keyboard to enter the address please?

Welcome to Android Central! What happens if you tap the Destination entry field?

The truck also has to be in park (and maybe parking brake on) to get the keyboard when you tap. Otherwise it is voice entry only.

Use voice to input. It works pretty good and won't be limited to parking mode.

Otherwise, I typically input the address either on the phone directly or on my PC before entering the car. Then, you simply pick up the destination from maps recent destination list.
