I want to be able to use my Android phone to run Android Auto on a vehicle's info screen using bluetooth rather than having a wired connection. I did some online checking and was told that Android Auto wireless connections was introduced with Android 11 so I bought a used phone (Galaxy A10e) that gsmarena told me was upgradable to Android 11. When it came in I set it up and tried to upgrade to Android 11 but was told that it was "up to date" with Android 9.

I apparently can't use the normal Setup functionality to upgrade since I am not offered that option, but is there some other way to force an upgrade to 11? Or should I just return the phone to BackMarket and get a newer version?

Thanks for any help.

Don't have an answer to your substantive question but you can get a wireless adapter to keep plugged into your car that lets you use Android Auto over Bluetooth with any phone.

How you go about it, depends on the specific varient of the device you have. You could download the firmware from Sammobile and use Odin to flash it, provided you have a supported variant. - https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-a10e/firmware/ If you're not comfortable with that process or have an unsupported variant, best you just return it and get something different.

These are the required compatibility and if your head unit isn't from a vehicle 2020 and up you will need to upgrade your head unit to Android version and use Motorola M1 wireless adapter

Thank you for the suggestion, but that will not work for me.

The problem is that the vehicle's usb connection for the info system is right behind the cup holder my wife uses for her tea or water or juice or whatever she wants to drink. Plugging a usb cable into the connection means that she can not use the cup holder because it extends too far from the dashboard and prevents her from placing her cup in the holder. One of the AA wireless adapters would do the exact same thing.

I did not explain why I wanted to use a wireless connection because it seemed superfluous but now I see that I should have posted that info as well. I guess one of the things I can try is one of those 90 degree usb adapters and see if that is short enough to solve the problem.

Thanks for this. I will check to see what variant I have.

It does puzzle me as to why the phone is listed as accepting Android 11 (and hence wireless AA connectivity) on gsmarena, which is usually pretty accurate, but will not allow me to just update. I just bought it from BackMarket after asking them for a phone that could connect AA wirelessly and I could just return it because it does not do that so I am unsure as to whether to try to force a firmware update and perhaps accidentally bricking the phone.

The vehicle is brand new and I know it supports wireless AA because it does that with my 2 year old Samsung Android phone. I don't want to use that phone for the connection for a variety of reasons and bought a used Samsung for that purpose.

It appears that I bought too old a phone to be able to do that and I suppose that is my fault, trying to save some money, but I trusted the gsmarena info about being able to upgrade to Android 11. I will not make that mistake again, although perhaps I will make another one ... :)

Yeah sorry.
