My company has a video recording camera meant to make our work easier. Unfortunately users are able to navigate through the device which is causing a big problem. Is there any way we can hide the settings and menu from the users? Such that once you switch on the device, you cannot go through the menu, either it’s hidden or a password protected

You know I was thinking about this and perhaps something like Tasker could help. I still don't know how they are accessing it or going through the device but with Tasker you could create a stand alone button that would do stuff like take a photo without opening the app. No open app no messing around?

I mean are they using filters or something? That's all I can picture. Pun intended. LOL.

Answers that's the only way to give better advice.

Best wishes

Welcome to Android Central forums. We're going to need more information to even begin to offer advice I'm afraid.

Let's start with the basics, what device is this?

What app is does this work on, work with, or use?

What is the purpose of the camera?

When you say that, users are able to navigate through the device, what do you mean? Just look at random things, specifically the camera settings, look at other people remotely?

Anyway, as far as random suggestions I cannot think of anything that would allow the app to be open but prevent use of or changing settings. A parental app could block settings changes but probably not in an open app. I was trying to imagine something like Tasker being used, but I don't believe it has the level of control. With this being an official corporate device rooting might be out of the question, if there is even an exploit for it, cause it probably isn't the most expensive device being corporate. Even so I can't think of anyone who would write an exploit to block settings, usually it is the other way around where they want more control, more access. I think you might hit a dead end on this one.

Thanks for the response. The device is a body camera running on android aimed at recording events during an operation (I am a law enforcer officer). My fellow colleagues have found out that the body cam is capable of WiFi hotspot and they connect to their phones which is making the battery drain most times. So I wanted to find out if an update of the android version or any other way can lock the menu so that they can no longer navigate through and connect to the wifi.

You'd likely need a custom-made OS version that strips these down or an app that runs its virtual workspace with only certain apps/settings available. Unfortunately this is not something that is easily done or achievable with a free app. A lot of design firms/freelance programmers can offer a package with similar functions and tailored to your needs/userbase size, but it is, after all, something that does require custom app development (think POS tablets, hotel courtesy phones, etc.).

Thanks, I appreciate that

Whomever purchased the cameras for your department should be able to contact the manufacturer for support. I'd think that a decent body camera built/sold for this purpose would be somewhat locked down or have some special admin only menus that help control things just like this. As another example, what if one of the cameras is somehow removed from one of the officers? I'd expect that an average Joe shouldn't then be able to get into the camera's memory or storage settings, or maybe even by policy the department wouldn't want officers to be able to on their own normally erase or manipulate the memory.
