Historic Pioneer Square. Taken with a Nexus 6P.

For most of us, looking back at the past for some perspective is a good thing — and often times those memories are contained in physical objects. We can learn from mistakes, and also just remember what's happened and make sure we don't forget the important things. In our latest photo contest, we want you to capture some history — be it your own, or someone else's that you come across. We're sure you can come up with some great shots.

For their efforts in this contest, we'll be picking four winners, each of whom will take home a Google Cardboard VR viewer!

Entering is easy. Just drop your entry in a post below. Tell us what Android you used to get the picture, and any back story you want to add to it. We'll pick a winner Tuesday (January 26) night at 11:59 PM ET, and announce them on the blog with the next contest.

  • Pictures must be taken with an Android device
  • Pictures must be uploaded to the contest thread. I'm not running all over the Internet to track them down.
  • You have to tell us what device you used to take the picture, and any special software you might have used. Editing your pictures is fine — this is art.
  • Feel free to add a little back story — we want to know how the picture came to be.
  • You must have used a valid email address to register here at AC, so I know how to contact the winner.
  • Only one entry per contest per person.

Good luck, everyone!

My entry in the photo contest.
"Piggy's" is a historic ice cream parlor in Hendersonville, North Carolina. The owner was a collector of memorabilia which cover the walls and hang from the ceiling.
Their ice cream is delicious and cheap.
It's a fun place to go.
Shot with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and converted to monochrome with Adobe Photoshop CS6.Piggys.jpg

Captured with Moto G 2014 in HDR and edited in Snapseed. Just east of Pensacola, home of the Blue Angels, an iconic Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is frozen in flight. These planes were considered key in U.S. conflicts including the Vietnam War, and they continue to capture the eye as well as our collective imagination.

In Prague, you can hardly walk a few steps without bumping in some kind of history. I snapped this photo with my N5X last week just before walking into a bar downtown, a place hidden from plain sight. Twenty years ago, the whole Old Town looked like this, now everything's renovated and kinda boring. Really dig the colors on this one, esp. considering there's no edits at all.

Taken on the Galaxy Note 5. This is from my trip to Disney World this past November. It's a picture of the main building in the Polynesian from my room (in the Figi building). I did not edit it at all. However, it was used with Samsung's PRO mode in their camera app, which is on their latest flagship phones.20151121_204431.jpg

Saint-Étienne de Metz
Metz, France
The Cathedral's construction began in 1220 and was finished in the 1520s.
I was visiting family in Germany and we made a trip to Metz to see the christmas market and cathedrale.

I'm on holidays on the other side of the country at the moment and had the opportunity to visit The Pinnacles in Western Australia. As far as history goes, these things are super old! Really an amazing place to walk through. And to add an (almost) historical figure in the mix, Billy Connolly ran around nude here.
Taken with a Samsung Note 4. No edit.

Lincoln Tomb and Mausoleum. Located at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, IL, Construction began in 1868, completed in 1874.
Recently transferred to the Midwest, I set out to explore nearby. My girlfriend enjoys new places and exploring. Just a quick trip before I got called into work.

I am trying to upload my photo to the thread through the app and it keeps telling me that it couldn't.

"The Great Hunger Memorial of Westchester County

During "An Gorta Mor," The Great Hunger of 1845-1851, the potato crop failed and starvation swept the country of Ireland. Other crops were not affected but were withheld from the peasantry. While millions starved, an abundance of food was exported for commerce.

Tragically, this situation still exists in the world today. More than one million died of starvation and three times that number chose or were forced to emigrate. The great majority came to America where they contributed greatly to the economic, cultural, and political life of the new land. Ireland's loss was America's gain.
This monument is dedicated to those who emigrated to Westchester County and to the dispossessed of all the countries who strive together for the ideals of freedom and equality in the land of liberty."

Went to the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport. I have a huge love of the SR-71 and I didn't know there was a space shuttle there. My wife opted to not tell me. I was so damn giddy when I saw it. I took this picture with the focus on the space shuttle looming in the background. This was taken with a Nexus 6 and I didn't do any processing to the image if my memory is correct.. For those that don't know, this is the SR-7 from Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.
