Android cloud agent

Hi all

I recently had a shock when I was notified that I was nearing the end of my data limit. I use less than 100mb data usage a month so I was shocked to find that I had used 400mb last Tuesday morning. I investigated and this is what I found out.

On that morning I had received notification that there was a firmware upgrade available so I ran and installed it using over my home wifi network. Once it had finished I went to work.
The data usage occurred during my commute when the phone was in my pocket so it had to have happened automatically.
I checked my data usage later and found that something called 'Android cloud agent' had used all the data.
I suspected this could be my apps updating for the new firmware so I checked my settings on Google Play Store and it is set to only update over wifi.

I need some clarity on the following issues

Some of my apps are individually set to update automatically, does this override the settings in the Google Play Store, if so how do I turn off all automatic updating?
What is this cloud agent, do I need it or can I remove it, if so how?
My theory may be completely wrong, cloud agent is certainly the culprit so could there be any other explanations?

I have now I have now set Android cloud agent to only use wifi.

Many thanks for any help.

For some, the recent Play Store update has changed the auto update preferences. There is now a global setting in the Play Store app. Some have noticed no changes, some had their auto update turned off and all mine were set not to auto update and got changed to update over wifi only. I mention that as a possible cause.
