Android Marshmallow app backup and restore?

The phone is a Samsung S5 with Verizon service (oxymoron?) and Marshmallow.

Do I need to go online to setup something within Drive itself?

Since I can't see any apps at all listed, I can't tell anything about the moved apps.

If you are in the Google Drive app already, there's nothing more to be set up.

And it isn't a question of if you have apps that use it... you have Google apps loaded, obviously, and those access those APIs and have for a while.

Have you tried toggling the setting? Kind of like hitting it with a digital hammer.

Thought I replied yesterday, but I can't find my reply, so I'll try again —

I've tried toggling the On/Off switch several times before. After your post yesterday, I tried switching it to Off again, then waiting a few minutes and powering off the phone, then rebooting the phone and switching the setting back to On. Always the same result. I am told, "No backup available. Be sure to enable backup for this device . . . TURN ON BACKUP MY DATA."

When I open My Drive, I am greeted with, "Welcome, your drive is ready! Try uploading a file." Do I have to upload a file before My Drive acknowledges the backup setting?

No.... Google only uses your Google Drive container for the data... But they don't actually need any user interaction to get it there (i.e. you actually don't even need to have ever gone into Google Drive)

Thanks for your reply LeoRex.

I'm going to consider this problem a black hole sucking our time spent trying to resolve the problem deep inside. I appreciate the time you've spent on my problem, but at this point I don't think more time will tease out an answer. There doesn't seem to be anything I can tweak or switch at my end.

I was excited the morning after my last post because an updated version of Google Drive installed to my phone. I was hoping that the update would fix the problem, but no, nothing changed.

Sorry you're having the same problem, BlondeAmbition007. It is frustrating.

I wish I could find a way to have it reproduced for the guys at androidcentral, so the problem could be traced.
