So weird, this morning it wasn't there and my phone showed no updates made and all of a sudden it's updated without any notification

Is there a setting within the Android Messages app to enable dark mode, and what is the latest version number?

Got the update yesterday but the new design and dark mode were only available a few hours after updating the app. I guess there's a server-side switch that turns on the new features. Just be patient.

Or maybe close/force stop the app and see what happens.

Latest version is 3.5.053. The dark mode option is available if you tap the 3 dots on right corner.

Not yet. Dark mode was listed as coming soon.

The pastel icons look a lot better in dark mode. I didn't think that was possible.

Is the version different on the pixel 2 from the original pixel? I'm on 3.4.048 and it was updated on August 7th on my original pixel XL.

Latest version is 3.5.053. The dark mode option is available if you tap the 3 dots on right corner.

Same version here on a Moto device.

Got it pixel 2. Was not there yesterday after I updated. Looks way better!

Got it finally....it wasn't available immediately after the update

just got my pixel 2xl into the "dark side"..
not sure how though.. did not have the option with the 3 dot option... went into permissions for the app and verified all was correct, went back into the message app, and the option magically appeared... don't know why.. but don't care.. ha

I use textra so I've had it all along as well but I don't use dark mode, I actually like the white look
