Well, I was informed a new Droid is on its way to me "soon"... so, I'll be making the switch.

I'm not switching because I feel the need, don't like my current phone, etc. I'm switching because as part of the Verizon Wireless Customer Council Member, they send us devices, ask us to use them, and provide feed back. (before you ask, see -> howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=10050494&postcount=244 )

While I like my current phone, I don't mind switching to the Droid. I'm curious to try it, see how it performs, how it compares to the other devices I've used. Truth be told, I can't wait for it to get here so I can start playing!

While I'm happy to get back to Motorola (hope the call quality and radio reception is the same as my V710, E815 and Razr2/V9M), I'm not looking forward to switching operating systems and hence replacing all my apps... (been using the Storm/9530 since the VCC sent it to us last thanksgiving, with an occasional switch to the Tour/963)

Some of you may know me from HowardForums, and my web pages...

But with Android, I'll be starting from scratch, and taking the time to try and learn. With any luck, given the limited amount of free time I have now, I'll learn and be able to contribute. The only limit to this will be my free time.

Any one have any good tips on where to get started?

I came from the 9530 as well. I have the G1 (which seems to be getting to be out-dated). Anyway, I am not the most tech-savvy person in the world. However, I found Android to have a small learning curve. Considering your apparent knowledge of these kind of things, I believe you're going to hit the ground running with Android.

My first suggestion is to read around here a bit, you won't really know what you'll need help on until you actually use the device yourself. It's fairly intuitive BUT has a ton of options too; this leads to simple questions but without the device in your hand it's kind of hard to give you direction.

Good luck with it, I would love to hear your impressions.

Hey Mark. Remeber you from Howard Forums. I as well will be learning from scratch. I hope we can find and contribute to helpful threads in the future.

Coming from BlackBerry 9530 so I will be starting from scratch as well. One thing you might want to do that I did. Download the android 2.0 sdk and create a virtual device. This will help you get familiar with the operating system before you get the Droid.

I am most concerned about how to upgrade the OS when new versions come out, backing up apps, etc things I was very good at with BlackBerry.
