android noob: uploading music/videos to phone?

I can't seem to find any info on how to upload music or videos to my phone to view later. I understand how to upload FROM the phone, but on my old iphone (good riddance) i was able to of course add music and videos to the phone, sync it, then open up my multimedia or ipod tab and check out my songs or videos.

How do i do this on my epic using android? also what formats should i be aware of?

all i do is connect it using usb, click mass storage, and make a folder video,music,etc. drag and drop no sync required and the music player will locate all mp3, also you can use a file explorer(i use astro) to open things individually.

I have been using Windows media player to sync my music. For videos, I made a video folder and copied the videos to that folder. I use both the gallery app as well as the mvideo player downloade from the market. Still evaluating which one I like better.
