I had an update last night so I updated my phone but it's still on 4.4.2 kitkat the update was just a stability update but my phone has been fine until now where the android OS is using a lot of battery power & my phone is hot. The battery has gone down really fast too which is not normal. Anyway to fix this?

Maybe that's the problem. Stop it for a while and see If the problem persist. Android OS is related to background processes.

Didn't no that the android OS is related to background processes. After taking my phone off charge it seems to be acting normal but will see when it reaches about 40% as that's when trouble started.

Bad wording 😊

Android OS is the kernel and tons of processes are included. I meant that that the high percentage of battery in Android OS could be related to background processes.

Oh ok at least I no now. At the moment android system is at 21% but all seems to be ok. Maybe it was a little glitch that android OS was using so much battery.

An even higher percentage now look at this. Can't believe it's 62% the highest I've ever seen it. Normally it's not above 20%

This is just an incidental observation, but is your cell signal that bad all the time? That could contribute to your battery drain, but it shouldn't contribute to the OS battery usage.

Time for a factory reset. 😉Screenshot_2014-11-11-05-41-46.jpg

Running 4.4.2 Nordic std rom with bloatware frozen. And yes I used maildroid heavily during yesterday

Yeah unfortunately my cell signal is rubbish always has been since I joined EE. I think this android OS thing is due to the update I did the other night as it was fine before. Maybe if Samsung hurry up with the 4.4.4 update it will fix it.

Don't really wanna do a factory reset either. Will loose to much stuff.

Let's try to find the culprit then :).

You're going to need more detailed battery stats. Download Gsam (free and no root needed ) and have a look at battery and cpu percentages. Check the wakelocks, normally very cryptic but you could get lucky.

You are going to need to charge your phone after installing the app. Post the screenshots after some use (battery at 20-30%) and let's see if something pops up in the stats.

Mine is doing the same thing. I used to get a whole day out of my battery with moderate use. Since the update, I now get maybe 4-5 hours. At first, I thought it might be the battery crapping out, so I ordered a new one with no luck. Today, after 2.5 hours with only 30 minutes of voice calls, it was down to 45% so I had to start charging. Ridiculous...

Glad it's not just my phone doing this.

Will download Gsam tonight after work then I can charge it & report back here with some info hopefully after I've used my phone normally for the day.

Same problem here. I uninstalled a couple of relatively new apps, and then a couple more. I did a factory reset Sunday, and now my battery life is awesome again. Kind of a pain to do the reset, but in this case it was totally worth it.

Ok here are my results but the android OS actually behaved today.
