Android setting affecting Google Meet

Hello,

I've used Google meet on my Samsung s23 for some time. Long story short, it popped up a box asking me if I wanted to play with customization, one I had not seen before. I messed around and set a solid-color background.

Problem is, I cannot remove this background and no amount of searching online, even with AI, has found a solution. I can access the controls for this in Meet itself and I cannot make it go away. When I go into advanced settings for this, I see that color selected with a check on it, but android will not allow me to un-check it or otherwise deactivate it.

I've deleted and re-installed the app but clearly config files persist...sigh.

Any help would be appreciated.

Before you deleted the app, did you perchance delete data and cache first?
If not try that.

If you go to your Phone's settings (not Meet's), go to Advanced Features and check the Video Effects section (if it's not there, try searching for "Video Effects" in the phone's settings). You can turn them on/off, change them, and see which apps would be affected when in use.

You should also see the additional notification for Video Effects while in a call in Meet. Tapping that would allow you to access the video effects settings directly, too.

As I previously stated, none of the actual phone settings for this will allow me to deactivate this, not in Meet or in advanced android settings.

No, because there is no option for this.

I'm lost here. If you could just actually tell me how to do that it would be more useful.

Tap and hold meet.
Tap app info.
Tap storage and cache.
Tap user data and delete / clear storage.

Your phone is not like mine, must be a different version of android. When I press and hold the meet icon, It's nothing like yours. Please advise.

Did that, I see the cache thing however, it does not give me the option to uninstall the app - only to uninstall the updates, which tells me it came bundled with the phone. Still did nothing.

I think that we are approaching this wrong. You are assuming there is a problem with the phone, it's new..so probably not. I physically turned it on... so logically, there _must_ be a setting a way to turn this off, since I was able to turn it on.

Can somebody please tell me how this is done?

I moved this to the S23 forum .

Please keep in mind that this is a volunteer community, not a help line that's staffed 24/7, so patience is always advised.

If you look back, you'll notice that rvbfan advised to delete/clear storage for the app, not to uninstall it. So do this:

1. Open your system settings, then Apps.
2. Select Google Meet
3. Scroll down and select Storage
4. At the bottom, tap Clear Cache, and also Clear Data.
5. Go back a menu level and tap Force Stop.
6. Now go back to your homescreen, open Google Meet, and give it a couple of seconds to log back into your Google account. Does the problem persist?

Also really hard to help with generic text descriptions. Screenshots of which options you're seeing grayed out would help a lot more, as well as the OS version you're on (in case it differs from what some of us are using and can help with). Just make sure you don't post any personal info on those Screenshots (i.e. Blurr out any e-mails, phone numbers, names, etc.).
