Android System eating up majority of battery

Installed GSM a few weeks ago after noticing considerable drain on my battery (especially when I send/receive a lot of texts). Noticed that Android takes up a big chunk of the battery. Wondering if this is normal? I've done a factory reset and wipe my cache a few times a week.

Both of these battery stats indicate really really consistently poor cell signal. Those orange and yellow bars are draining your battery.

I turn off mobile data once im using wifi

Which "category" if any, would MMS messages fall under? That is definitely my biggest battery drain. Even with a strong network signal (at home or work I'm usually at two or more bars 4G) and WiFi, if I get a bunch of MMS messages (>25 an hour), my battery literally drains 1% every five minutes.
