My ISP does not use authentication for the outgoing server. Android versions previous to 2.2 had an option for not using outgoing authentication in the email setup (specifically the outgoing server settings).I am unable to find this option on the Droid 2 phone or the email setup walk-through on Verizon's website for the Droid 2.

Did Android drop the ability to not use authentication for the outgoing server?

Is your ISP @pleaserelayspam.com?

I am really surprised your ISP does not require at least id/pwd authentication to send e-mail. I don’t think I’ve seen that in so many years I can’t remember.

I would give your ISP a call and ask them to implement that, if for no other reason than to protect your e-mails from being flagged as spam by every spam filter on the planet. As for if 2.2 requires Auth, I would not be surprised, but I can’t confirm this until the 18th (hopefully).

I don’t mean to sound snarky, I’m just really surprised there is an ISP that does not require some sort of auth to send e-mails.
