[ANNOUNCEMENT] HydroROM is in development!

So I have been a faithful gROM user for some time now, but I am really looking forward to seeing how this ROM turns out. I have read through this entire thread (been checking in every day), though I admit I haven't read through the YOUR-MOM-ROM thread, so I apologize if this has been asked and answered elsewhere:

While there are obviously a lot of changes, does the fact this ROM is still based on ZVH mean one could upgrade from gROM to this without wiping data? As long as one wipes cache before flashing HydroROM, could they simply upgrade from gROM without having to clear data and restore a backup using something like Titanium Backup? Are you going to do any testing of this scenario?

Obviously, I'll be making a complete backup before I would attempt such a thing, but I'm wondering if it is even worth attempting when HydroROM comes out.

You will be required to wipe data before flashing HydroROM. Titanium Backup is also unsupported. That doesn't mean you can't use it, but any issues you have will be ignored until you can replicate the issue without using Titanium Backup.

We already are aware of the issues that can (and will) arise when failing to wipe data, and we are also aware of issues that can arise when using Titanium Backup. Both scenarios are unsupported and we will not be testing those.

Well isn't this a shocker.

What's all the sarcasm for?

No kidding. If people could actually grasp the knowledge and effort it took to develop these great ROMS and mods maybe they would be a little more respectful. And patient. Everyone wants a bug free experience, all the latest features n , but no patience. Geez. Donate once in a while!

Aaron,

I think you misunderstood us, we were both commenting on the fact that considering the size and complexity of ROMs it is hard to imagine a case where you can install a ROM without starting from scratch ( Full Wipe). I for one do not take the development of ROMs lightly these are complex devices that rival desktop computers and trying to rebuild or customize the kernel for a computer is not an easy task.

OK OK OK, SORRY! I completely got it wrong....thanks for explaining. Yeah it's tough work. Patience that I'm not sure all people have, and knowledge of course. Really glad we have such great devs here on the optimus S. Again my bad for the post really.:-!

Well I do believe it's necessary to state a full wipe is required regardless, because I have seen too many people make stupid mistakes on this forum and with every ROM release it's just plain smart to lay everything out for the people that need step by step instructions.

Coldrush,

I think that rukin and I were just poking a little fun at the idea that you would in any way expect to keep any personal/setup info in the the phone when installing a completely different ROM. While I know that there are a variety of users that come here, with differing degrees of knowledge, it still seems like by now people would know that you have to do a full wipe when installing a brand new ROM.

I agree that even with all the warnings and requirements and such that are ALWAYS stated on the same page as the ROM file itself, people still can get it wrong. Making a backup is critical, seems most people heed this warning though. But if you follow the instructions these devs won't steer you wrong:)

Is it possible to include the extra ip tables in the ROM? Just wondering; a lot of my friends and I have CM7 on our Optimii (?) and we play games and such using the extra bluetooth protocols...so do you think it could happen?

IPTables and the Bluetooth stack are completely unrelated.

As for having the CM7 bluetooth stack on a ZVH-based ROM, that's a no-go. Not that it's necessarily impossible, but it's not something I'm looking into doing. You're welcome to give it a shot though.

So basically, the only supported backups that I can do are Nandroid? Is there another way to backup just my apps and data (mybackup pro?) without backing up the ROM? Also, what problems could Titanium cause?
Thanks for all your hard work!

Generally, app+data backups between different ROMs can cause issues such as FCs (Force Closes), Market issues, etc. App+Data backups using Titanium between versions of the same ROM shouldn't be an issue though.

Batch restore without data generally causes no issues. As drew said it is largely an issue when switching between different roms expecially basebands. Even if the rom devs make big core changes can cause issues

Hmm, I'm not sure I believe this, though I'd be willing to be convinced with, say more screenshots :p...no? It was worth a shot!

take it from the word of a tester? no? well, it was worth a shot.

id post screen shots, but drew would probably hunt me down and have me drawn and quartered. haha

trust me, there are some LARGE changes from stock ZVH haha
