Annoying "You're out of memory" popups.

Any time I go into my gallery of photos, my phone keeps prompting me that I'm out of space and to delete something. I've already deleted several things and although it's not a lot, I do have 86M free, which should be enough for a photo or two or a screenshot, which is what I tried to do. I'm puzzled as to why I have so little space available. I have an 8G phone, and it says I have 3.88G of applications, 3.93G of downloads - and 6.48 of "miscellaneous files"?! What are those if they aren't music or videos? The popup tells me I only have 33M of available space, while in Settings > Storage it tells me I have 86M? Why the discrepancy?

I've deleted every app that I thought I wasn't using, and I have no videos on my phone at all - just a few photos. I have maybe 50 songs on it, but that's not exactly packing them on, and I've deleted some of them. I feel like I'm going to have to buy more memory just to get rid of this annoying "out of space" message. At this point I can't even view the photos in my gallery; the phone demands that I delete something before it'll allow me to view them!

Addendum - after deleting about half of my music, I now have over 800M available. Yet I still get a popup whenever I try to open my Gallery saying "Warning: There is not enough space (47MB) in your phone memory. Delete some files."

???

Addendum #2 - I just deleted even more files from my phone. Now, instead of telling me that I only have 47MB available, it tells me that I only have 1M available! Even less than before?! This is obviously NOT a available-space problem. Btw, I don't have an SD card in my phone.

I also can't open the Google Play app. Same issue.

Of the folders with any significant storage, Storage Settings tells me I have:

16G total space
3.89G Applications
4.19G Downloads
6.49G Miscellaneous files (???) <--- what would go in here if not apps, music, or photos?
114M Available space <-- so why can't I open my Gallery if I have 114M of space?
712M Audio
168M Pictures, videos
37M Cached data

Hello crunchyhippo.

After several hours of searching the Internet, I solved your problem - at least for a while. I simply went to Settings > Storage > Cached Data > clear all. Now I can access the Gallery and the Google Store.

Best wishes.

The problem has suddenly returned. I have plenty of space. So I have no idea what the issue is.

If you don't have SD card (which you don't), you must set your DCIM directory (in Camera settings) to SD INTERNAL DRIVE not in to internal memory! 114MB is your free internal memory. So in your camera settings set where you photos will be stored (in your case SD INTERNAL!) And it'll solve your problem with gallery too.
