I should buy a new phone with more memory, but in the meantime can someone tell me how to clean up some more space on this phone... I'm running out! I download photos and videos to my computer, but for some reason I can no longer download the recordings... they don't show up in the tree when I attach it to the computer with the USB cable. Photos are the only option but I remember being able to take the recordings off a long time ago.

I removed all the apps that I don't use and I run Smart Cleaning often but I still get a message that I'm low on memory. Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! When you connect the phone to the computer via USB, can you see other files besides the recordings?

Also, when you connect, make sure the phone screen is unlocked. If the files still don't show up, swipe down the notification panel, tap the USB notification, and make sure it's set to File Transfer (or MTP).
Thanks... I figured it out. I neglected to select all files to transfer and it only showed photos.
My carrier is Tracfone with a cheap plan. I'm retired and living on a fixed income. Don't need anything fancy... just the basics. I think I paid $30 for this phone several years ago... it was probably obsolete back then. I'll check the Trafone site and see what phones they have with 64 GB storage and full Android.

One more question: Is there a way to transfer my data from the old phone to the new one when I get it? Thanks
Looking on their website, the Moto G Play 2023 and Nokia C110 are both $50, but both of them come with only 32 GB internal storage -- better than your current 16 GB, but not by that much. Either one would probably be fine, but you'd still have to accept the fact that you can't go nuts and install a ton of apps on them due to space limitations.

The TCL 50 LE is $80 -- a little more, but it comes with 64 GB storage (and also has significantly better internal hardware), so if you can afford it, that would probably be the best bet.

Deals might differ based on where you are and the fact that you're already a customer, though.

You can definitely transfer data from the old phone to the new one during setup. https://support.google.com/android/answer/6193424?hl=en#zippy=,switch-from-an-android-device. Another method would be to restore the new phone using a backup from the old one, which you might be prompted for during setup. But the first method is probably the easiest.

Be aware, though, that when restoring apps, all it will do is install that list of apps on the new phone. Existing app data isn't necessarily transferred unless the developer has taken full advantage of Google's backup system (which isn't always the case): https://support.google.com/android/answer/2819582?hl=en. Also, many apps will save data to their own servers based on your account, so as long as you sign back in with your account, your data will be available again.

Okay thanks. Guess I'll order something after the holidays.
