Hello

I'm OK with a PC having been a secretary in a previous life, so I know my way around it but when it comes to new technology I'm a bit of a novice - hence some basic questions regarding my Android Fusion5. A couple of members have very kindly sorted me out with my previous query so I'm sure there's someone out there who can help me again.

I have already downloaded many hundreds of PDF files (mostly magazines) to my PC and want to transfer them to my Android so that I can read them on that.

I've downloaded an app (ReadEra) on to my Android but I don't know how to launch it so that it starts automatically at startup.

When it is launched, I would like to choose to use the app each time I open the PDF file. How do I get to do that?

I've searched YouTube and looked on the internet but can't find anything specific regarding my problem. I can't find any decent tutorial about transferring files etc. in the manual - in fact I don't think anything like that exists (LOL). Surely I'm not the only one who thinks the Fusion5 manual is lacking in many ways.

Looking forward to some interesting answers.

When you connect your phone to the pc do you get the option to choose how you want to connect? ie Charge and data? Do you see the phone listed in Windows Explorer as a drive after you connect the phone to the pc? Depending on how much storage you have available on the phone determines how much you can transfer over. I'm not sure you can force an app to start automatically but honestly, I've never tried. The only way I get the prompt you are speaking of is when I choose to open the files themselves, not the app.

Android doesn't have a native feature to open an app into the foreground automatically upon startup. There are 3rd party apps that can help, like Tasker, but those can have a fairly steep learning curve.

You might be able to change your default PDF reader to that app. First, go to Settings>Apps, tap the menu button, then Reset All App Preferences. Now open a PDF file -- does it give you a choice of apps to open it with? If it does, select ReadEra, then tap the Always option. This will set ReadEra to be the default app to open any PDF file you select.

Thanks both of you for your replies. B.Diddy - I've gone through your 'instructions' and it now appears to be doing what I want it to do. I appreciate your help.
