Another rant about the INEXCUSABLY AWFUL battery life

I need help guys. I dropped 25% in less than an hour and here are my screenshots. This is just making me ill bc i am stuck with this phone unless Moto does a warranty exchange (changed accounts and VZW is no longer responsible for the phone they say). Anyways, any input would be appreciated bc this is not what I call normal.

I don't get it. I have absolutely no problems with battery life on my RAZR. I charge it all night, and go to work with it on 100% charge. At work, I probably make about 30 mins of phone calls + regularly check emails and other notifications several times an hour. When I get back home 10 hours later, it is 60% charged.

If your not using the Motorola charger that came in the box, the battery wont charge properly. A Blackberry, universal or HTC charger will damage the battery. OP the issue you are having is not normal.

Quit telling people that. You've done it in several threads and it is NOT true.

Dan is correct here. Absolutely no issues with using a different charger. Now they can use that against you in a warranty circumstance, but just understand they are compatible. Always be weary of cheap knock offs.

DanH, could you possibly comment on my previously posted screenshots? I'd definitely respect your opinion.

My smart action settings have made my Droid RAZR the phone with the best battery life I have ever had. Out of the box, however, the RAZR had the probably the worst battery life of any phone I ever had.

Motorola really failed to make it clear how you use the RAZR as the powerhouse it is.

I don't know exactly what the thread originator's actual problem is, but the following thread should help RAZR owners solve all their battery life issue and have the phone with perhaps the best battery life of all LTE phones.

How to get FANTASTIC battery life on the RAZR

When you check the battery what does it say is using the most power?

I'd say you got a lemon, I'd try to exchange it out for a new one if I were you.

OP here

For the times where I have not used my phone and it still manages to lose a good chunk of power, the top things under battery usage are phone idle and cell standby, oh and once I think media server was at the top. And when I'm using the device display is always uses the most.

I see a lot of people commenting on PC charging, and I mainly do that when I'm at work. When I'm at home I'm plugged directly into an outlet. I use several different cables regularly, I use my DX wall charger that came with that phone and I have another one that I got with the the DX2 accessories bundle that was $20, I also have a Verizon car charger, and I use the usb wall adapter that came with the Razr but I haven't actually opened the usb cable that came with the phone. I've got quite a few of those already so I just haven't opened it yet.

Tested it again last night btw, went to bed with 90% and didn't charge overnight and when I got up this morning it was at 40%

My 4G coverage is excellent actually. I've read some reports of flipping between 3g/4g but I've barely experienced that. I've speed tested it quite a few times and I regularly land in the 30Mbps down / 10Mbps up area.

It's almost 11 now, my phone is at 70%, and I just put it into plane mode, I'm not going to touch it and I'm not charging it.... I'll check it again in 4 hours and then I'll report back.

Doubt it. Verizon only sells universal chargers, including in packages they bundle for specific phones. If using a non-oem charger voided the warrantee, vzw destroys the warrantee on every charger they sell. Including my gf's ipad2 (dogs like flirting with electrocution)

I only say that for the non VZW branded universal chargers. They definitely distinguish their chargers from other random chargers. I have seen it take place with my own eyes. Was unfortunate. The customer could have gone to another store and tried again I'm sure.

Battery 40%, I haven't touched my phone in 4 hours and it's been in airplane mode the whole time, and I lost 30% of my battery.

don' buy a phone with no removable battery, once the warranty is up and the battery goes bad its a paperweight after my droid x I'm done with motorola. I don't know what the F??!k they are thinking. Do they want to be apple?

The battery is removable. I took mine out and it was fairly easy. You will need a micro torx driver for the six nuts but it took me all of two minutes. The back cover peels right off.

The part number is EB20.

Of course this will void your warranty with Verizon, but saying that the battery is not removable is simply disinformation. Please, if you guys on this forum don't really know what your talking about, try to refrain from spreading disinformation.

This goes for you too DanH. I'm fairly certain that I have much more knowledge and experience pertaining to this device than you do.

Charge phone up all the way. Do factory restore and see if it still does. Even in airplane mode data apps that need data could ping the radios still.

A battery that requires a screwdriver to get to and voids the warranty when you do is not removeable. And the charger is immaterial.

He has a dud phone. So instead of voiding the warranty and trying to acquire an OEM replacement that isn't carried in VZ stores, it's prolly a better idea for him to take it back and get another one.

You may know more about the phone than me or anyone but that knowledge isn't preventing you from making some very silly statements.

gozershalmoser, instead of continuing to boast your endless knowledge of the device and it's inner workings, why don't you cite another source that supports Blackberry or HTC chargers destroying Motorola phones?

What percentage of battery usage is being used by Android OS? Also, if you look at the battery usage graph, is it a constant decline, or does it drop off at specific points in time?

From the other reports, I'm guessing that there's some sort of bug that keeps Android OS running at full speed, even when the phone is sleeping.

It would be nice if there were something like the Unix "top" command that could be used to see which processes are using what amount of CPU...

My phone says the Android OS always uses 35-50 percent of the battery even when I'm mostly just checking emails throughout the day. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix this? On my Droid X the battery was mostly used by the Display and Android OS barely used any battery

All I know is that I would get like 50 hr in airplane mode. I got 35 hr one time when I barely used internet just texted. the more you use it the more you lose it. You have to find your personal medium. Remember it is a phone after all. Invest in ween external battery pack that can easily get you 5x your battery life if you really need THAT much mAh

I find that anybody who says that specific USB chargers can ruin or improperly charge a specific phone has no clue into what they are talking about. More specific, if they say it doesn't provide the proper voltage, that makes them an idiot who is talking out of there ass and making crap up.

All USB chargers provide one specific voltage... it has to or it WOULD screw up your battery even possibly causing a fire. However different chargers do provide different CURRENT, not voltage. The voltage WILL be the same on ALL single cell lithium ion battery chargers. Being this is what I do for a living its just the way it is... its the rules.

Now having different charges with different current ratings is something entirely different. If your charger is rated at 750ma, that just means its capable of charging a device up to 3/4 of an amp. However a device will only draw as much current as its designed to (internal circuitry). Okay?

So your USB port will not hurt or harm your device, okay? It doesn't provide the current some chargers might, but that doesn't mean it will destroy your battery or give you a "bad" charge. It just means it will only take longer. Infact, a slower charge is actually GOOD for giving a battery a nice strong charge. Charging a li-ion quickly actually hurts the cell.
So I hope all you know it alls will quit spreading mal-information and teaching people a bunch of lies. If you don't know wtf your talking about... don't talk.

You can try a factory wipe. Go thru the n00b setup, not skipping it, and see what happens.

Personally my recommendation is return it if in your return window. I did my Resound and the new one works perfectly. I wouldn't accept anything that doesn't work right till I know I screwed it up :-)

One question. Do you have Bluetooth turned on? I didn't see it in your screen shots.

Dude, that sucks. In my battery experiments (posted in another thread on this forum) I found that phone calls (with screen off during the call) drained my Razr about 9 or 10 percentage points per hour. So on a full battery (99% starting charge), after an hour phone call the battery would be at 90%.

In my humble opinion, your phone shipped to you with a damaged battery. That is not normal for any smart phone, let alone a Razr. In mg battery experiments on the Droid X, phone calls also drain about 10 percentage points per hour. Making a phone call (and allowing the screen to turn off during the call) should be a very energy efficient activity.

I remember when my GF had a problem with her old Samsung phone. The battery would only last 3 hours. When she took it to the store, the Rep removed the battery and some of the "cells" (not sure if that is the correct term to use here) were swollen. He got a replacement battery from the back and we could see the two batteries side by side. Her battery was slightly bulging at one end.

Your phone was shipped in some trailer that may have sat in the sun too long. It may have been mishandled. There are numerous things that could have happened to your phone before it hit the shelf. So, I would say you have a case of bad luck and got a faulty phone. There is nothing to do but exchange it. Good luck.

Look I have read all the posts threads about bad battery life. So what I did is this.
I turned off my data all day, and I ran around more than usual. I turned down my screen brightness
all the way.
I unpluged my phone at 5am and at 10:41pm I had about 40/50% battery left.
What eats the battery is data and gaming. If u play garphic intense games
and surf the web u will eat battery.
Not yelling but.
IF U JUST HAVE YOUR PHONE SITTING AND BATT DROPs significantly after a couple of hours; its probably a defective batt.

And to add to that... The display eats battery. So if you're texting a lot, the display is on a lot.. See the connection?
