Another rant about the INEXCUSABLY AWFUL battery life

My shrug was intended for the spirit of the thread title. Not as in "I don't care" but as in "I can't help you but I have no problem"

I have a smartphone because I want email sent to me INSTANTLY, I want to be able to have my location services on at all times for mapping and local searches.

I dont feel that I could have to cripple my phones performance to save battery.

That is why no matter what phone I have, (Moto DX2 or iPhone 4s or Nexus) I set them to performance mode/no restricitions.

Which is certainly your right but if that is your choice then you need to be willing to live with the repercussions of that choice which is to have an extended battery, charge the phone more often, or be willing to swap batteries. I have found that if you compromise on some things like sync times and screen brightness that it makes a lot of difference without having to completely neuter your phone.

A smartphone is like a mini computer, a computer will not last all day on a charge if you use it constantly. Think of it this way, a car can go 100 mph, and when doing so uses more gas, when going 55 mph you use less gas, you only go 100 mph when you have too not all the time; therefore, conserving gas until you need to go 100 mph. Same thing with a smartphone. Just because it can do a lot doesn't mean you need it all the time, only when necessary. If you insist on going 100 mph all the time then you shouldn't be surprised you use more gas. Just a thought and maybe a perspective people haven't thought about, especially those who have never had a smartphone before. And no this is not directed at Opusx just using his thought to make an observation .

Not a very good comparison...while you might not want to drive 100 mph all the time, you would still like to be able to stop at red lights, park, brake, leave it running for short times etc....see where I'm going with this. The car can still do every single thing it was intended to do, whilst disabling things on the smartphone inhibits it from doing the things it was meant to do. With that having been said, I suggest an external battery for the Razr and let it do all it wants and not worry about battery power....it's not an expensive option in my opinion.

Then the best thing for you will be a phone with a replaceable battery.

Actually you make my point, you don't use the brake all the time ( say gps), you don't park all the time ( say wifi), see where I'm going with this. That being said an external battery is defiantly an option.

To follow the analogy the external battery is a couple extra gas cans in the trunk to fill up at the rest stop on a long trip.

I think I posted this before at this site, cant remember:

According to Anandtech's Bench tool, the Verizon G Nex has very low talk time battery life vs. other current phones. That alone means overall it has worse battery life than the RAZR. Factor in using Smart Actions to help and its no wonder some ppl really are seeing better battery life with the RAZR.

For the phones I was interested in it went this way for overall battery life:

Bionic
RAZR
Verizon G NEX

Thing about the G Nex is it has somewhat lower overall battery life for 3G phones too when you compare 3G only. Again the talk times. While the RAZR, Bionic are better overall than the Droid X1 for current phones...which was at the top with the GS2 for overall battery life for Android phones at one time. Talk times again. The GSM G Nex is alot better than the Verizon version too. I seriously believe folks getting good, decent battery life on the G Nex are either running custom kernels/ROMs, using extended batteries, below moderate users, or dont make/receive calls.

The Rezound isnt on there yet, dont think they reviewed it yet too.

Thing about battery life and extended batteries....the Anker external is 5,00 mAh's and fits on a key chain. So non removable batteries is a real none issue now. And the back can come off the RAZR kinda easy. We just need to find some batteries from some where...lol.

Look when I had my Razr I turned off the data pretty much turned the screen all the way down. Turned it up only when necessary I did use the phone normally calls and text only. I got 16 hrs battery . I unplugged the phone at 5:30/6:00am and by 10:30 pm I had 40% left on the batt. Im sorry maybe its the screen on the GN or the fact that it has to fight to decide what signal its gonna pick up. But as of right now I dont know if I could get that on the GN and thats with the extended batt.

I had the extended battery with my Nexus and on Friday (the last day I had it active) I went from 100% down to 63% in about 2.5 hrs. Now I had it set to push notifications and CDMA Only NO LTE. But to me thats CRAZY especially with an extended battery.

You didn't screw it up. I took my RAZR all the way to dead, and have had no issues it. Not something I would want to do on a regular basis, but it should be smart enough to shut down before it harms the battery. I keep it charged throughout the day now. Either with AC, car or even plugging it into the full usb port on my thinkpad tablet.

I used one of these on a flight to China, and was able to watch video on my phone the whole way with a few breaks to eat and walk. Of course, it was in airplane mode, but we're talking about a 13 hour flight. It was a larger battery with two usb ports, but still compact enough to carry easily.

I have that big moto charger batt due to the fact that one of my cars is an older model and the car charger doesnt sit properly
