Another rant about the INEXCUSABLY AWFUL battery life

Almost an hour after unplugged. 90% battery. Phone idle 28% OS: 24% Social Location: 24% Cell standby: 21%
Don't know what activated social location but this is probably the remaining culprit.
Screeble defintely was hurting battery.
Thanks again.

I have been getting about 9 hours on what I would consider normal usage.

Right now I'm at 29% after 12 hours of a fantasy football Sunday. That involves phone calls, text updates and web browsing to keep tabs on the scores.

Consider me more than happy with the battery life of my Razr.

This is my exact situation. Motorola did a great job with this phone.

I haven't experienced many problems with the battery life of my razr quite yet. I haven't had it for very long but the charge holds up well for the amount of time I sit there playing with it.

I'm also having great battery life. 10 hours still 40% left normal usage. Very happy with this phone

Got this on sale for like 20 bucks at a radio shack. Usually around 45 bucks. And it almost has same capacity as the Razr. U can charge two things at once. Has a lil mini led flashlight. And it plugs in to the wall. Output is at DC 5.3v - 500mA. I have 4 of these all around. House. Truck. Work. Wife's purse (Incase either one of us need a charge when we go out.

My battery life has been stellar with the razr!!!! 80% battery going go bed at 10 pm woke at 9 had it off the charger all night and still had 75% left. To me that's amazing!!!

I never said that they had to be OEM. I simply stated that I have destroyed three different LG batteries (enV Touch, LG Ally, and some cheap flip phone I forgot the model of) all by charging them with a MicroUSB charger that came from Blackberry.

Not all MicroUSB charger voltages are the same and not all of them auto-select the correct voltage for the battery. You're fortunate that you haven't had this problem, but that does not mean that it does not exist.

I signed up to this site just to tell you that you're wrong.

A standard USB port provides 5V 500mAh, The charger that comes with the RAZR is 5.1V 850mAh. I also have an old HTC charger that is 4.8V 500mAh. iPods are 5V 150mAh, from memory iPhones are 5V 500mAh, and iPads are 5.1V 2100mAh. Speaking in terms of USB, it doesn't matter if the voltage is 4.8-5.1V, or what the mAh or wattage of the charger is because it's USB - the device decides how much power it pulls, lower amperage just equates for a slower charge. Remember that just because a charger is rated at 5V, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's a steady 5V. Just like the transfer rate of USB, the voltage fluctuates, but to meet USB standards the voltage needs to be within 4.75V to 5.25V which is considered the safe operating range.

Story time: When trying to charge both my RAZR and Backflip from a PC USB port the phone doesn't turn on instantly and sits there with the LED on for quite some time. whereas with the RAZR charger both devices turn on instantly - even though the Backflip charger is of a lower rating (can't remember the figure and I don't have it at hand.).An iPhone charger is the equivalent of a PC USB port. The iPad charger does the same as the RAZR charger. I didn't give the iPod charger enough time to turn on to see if it was effective in charging the device.

The long and short of it: If it's a USB port, it will charge the device without harming your battery. Chances are either there was something wrong with the charger in question, or LG make bad batteries. Either way, it's not the chargers fault if it's USB.

If you don't wanna take my word for it, here's Intel's word on the matter.

I didn't read your actual post. I just thought it was hilarious that you would go out of your way just to prove somebody wrong.

this is probably something that you all know about but hey, i'm going to mention it anyway.

Up until today i was losing about 9 % of battery life per hour being able to just about make 11 hours from 100% to 5% and i would consider myself a light user

Today i decided to read 3 forums Razr posts about battery life, combine notes and try some ideas and so far with light useage i've only used 18% in 7 hours! (still got 82% left)

just thought i'd mention what i did.

Using adw ex launcher, wifi on, set my yahoo and gmail emails to only sync manual and my business email to sync every hour but again be manual if i was working at my pc

I turned off 2 other things
In location and security, google location services

and in wifi settings where it says "manage networks" i deleted every wifi account i'd been signed in to since getting the phone except for 2. Wondering if the phone was always searching for them

I'm a novice at smartphones tbh but tomorrow i'll do a fair bit more with the razr and see how it goes then but i have to admit that today i'm quite happy

One other tip, at night put it in airplane mode and you may only lose 3% all night

still testing and still on the original charge. Used it to stream radio and netflix for almost 2hrs at 100% brightness, updated and downloaded some apps, a few emails and some texts and still a good amount of charge left (40%) I think i may be ok till tomorrow

:shrug I take mine off the charger at night with a full charge and it still has it when I get up. It drops to 90 after about 45 minutes of reading/internet usage. Then it lasts all day. I'm pretty happy with it.

I totally understand WHY you did this, and it appears to have solved the battery problem, but my opinion..........doesnt this totally defeat the purpose of having the smartphone in the first place?

I have a smartphone because I want email sent to me INSTANTLY, I want to be able to have my location services on at all times for mapping and local searches.

I dont feel that I could have to cripple my phones performance to save battery.

That is why no matter what phone I have, (Moto DX2 or iPhone 4s or Nexus) I set them to performance mode/no restricitions.

i just wanted to prove to myself that the battery life wasn't as poor as others were making out for what i use it for. I do have it doing everything its meant to sometimes like in the car with radio, gps and everything else going but when i'm home i have always been a lighter user except for gym trips. I thought the Razr was going to be my rental till the Nex came out but as i explored the razr i liked it. Then i went to check out the Nex last week and was very underwhelmed by it so i decided to see what i could do to make the batt last as long as possible for the times when i didn;t need to use it to its full capacity.

I like this phone and now i have it figured out, i'm keeping it, just putting it through its paces seeing what the battery killer elements are of it.

I totally agree with you. I bought the phone to do everything that a smartphone should do. All this turning off 4G, this and that is nonsense to me. I knew it would eat the battery, so I bought a 5000mah external battery charger to keep with me when I'm not around an AC outlet.....$39 and I can use my smartphone all day and night as it was designed. The other thing I don't get is why people don't just plug into an outlet when at home or office. My battery is NEVER a problem when I'm at home or at the office because I keep it plugged it in, the cable that came with the phone is thankfully plenty long.
