Another uninstall option?

So I downloaded ES File Explorer, and found where all the stock .apk files are stored on the Captivate. I was wanting to get rid of a few Sammy things, such as Buddies Now, Dual Clock, and the default My Files app to replace with one of my choosing. If I delete the .apk file where they are stored, will that uninstall the program? And if so, will this brick my phone? I am rooted, stock 2.1 rom. TIA

You're better off renaming the files, not deleting them

That way when you do something that stops the phone working, you might be able to fix it.

Would deleting the apk file remove the app from the phone? And if so, would deleting the preinstalled sammy Widgets and sammy file explorer hurt the phone?

I went ahead and tried. If you get a file explorer, navigate to system -> app, and find any program apk file and delete it, plus the odex file. I deleted write and go, plus all the sammy widgets this way. Didn't use titanium backup. I like this a lot better, just delete file and that's it. Question. If I delete my files.apk, that will get rid of sammy file explorer. Will that do away with the media scanner on startup?

SDX Stock APP Removal - painless and effective removal of system apps (even has a backup function).

You don't want to get rid of media scanner - that is what your phone uses to catalog the files on your SD card so they show up in things like Galley.

right. I just want to know if I remove the stock sammy file explorer will that affect the media scanner process? And removing the apk file also removes apps from phone.

MyFiles and Media Scanner are not associated in any way.

Removing the .apk removes that app from your phone.
