so I just bought this phone 2 weeks ago and to be honest I'm so sick of the Data dropping, happens to me daily, I never had a problem with my Droid 3 dropping 3G and I wish i never got rid of it for this headache.

so I got so fed up I called verizon the other night, basically was told the bionic has a known problem and theres nothing they can do, the lady told me theres an update coming soon, she had no date or any info on the update, I told her ill give it another week or so before I call back and give up on the phone.

anyone else hear anything about possible update coming soon? (possibly ICS? who know - _ - )

If you wait another week you may not be able to return it. Dont they only have a 14 day return policy? Also I have read nothing on an update coming soon.

There is an "update" coming (ICS) but it won't be until Q4 of this year. If you are that dissatisfied with the phone, call now before your return period ends.

my data connection was best with the first update. the second update has caused more dropouts. granted, the 4G comes back quickly, but on the first update I'd literally never lose 4G.

this data drop has to be area specific. i have had maybe one "so called " data drop, where my bars dropped to one, in which case i was still able to make calls. other than that, i have 5 bars 4g almost all the time... never lose data, but i know people complain about it often

edit: are you running the 902 firmware update?

It really is area specific. Some people travel between 3 and 4 g and when switching drops happen. If you live in an edge of a 4g area it is common to get a drop. And there is something called fringe area or something like that where it is a 4g but not 4g network, and those also will drop a lot. In solid 4g the phone is super solid.

Data drops got progressively worse when I first got the Bionic. First update fixed it. Second update made the phone almost flawless. Only issue I have is the occasional reboot but this is the most solid device I've owned to date.

I had a few reboots with my first bionic (owned it for about 90 days). My current phone is more stable. No spontaneous reboots that I can remember, but I have had to pull the battery a couple of times since December, which isn't bad IMO. I'm much happier with the replacement!

Make sure you check your battery mode. If it's set wrong you will get data drops every 15 minutes. I'm on .902 and no data drops here.
