Anti-Virus Apps

Is it recommended to use anti-virus apps like "Lookout Mobile" or "antivirus free"? I haven't really seen anything mentioned about it on here. Wonder if it will eat up way too much memory running (possibly in the back ground) than it is worth? Any suggestions would be be great.

It's been mentioned.
I don't use them. Some do for peace of mind.
Just be careful what apps you put on and you should be fine without one.

I'm using antivirus free by droidSecurity Inc., which can be downloaded from the Market.

If you wanted to get rid of the anti-virus app, would uninstalling it remove everything associated with the app? I know this is different than a PC, but a simple uninstall for some antivirus software on PC will not remove all of the antivirus software.

I've heard some pretty mixed things about antivirus apps (and I question their usefulness). Just don't sideload any shady third party apps and pay attention to the permissions an app is requesting (like why does a Wallpaper app require access to your personal data?).

I currently have AVG for Android on my phone. Is an Antivirus software necessary? What are the pros and cons?
