antivirus?

Well I personally haven't heard of any horror stories about someone getting a virus, BUT considering it's open source you never know. I have Lookout Mobile Security. Free in the market.

Don't bother.

I've always felt they were kind of useless. I have YET to hear about one virus or anything on an Android device. But you don't think it'll be good just in case someone decides to be a fukc and throw some crazy **** in an app? Then again I guess if that were to happen the app would be taken down before it broke out too much right?

It will always boil down to user intervention and for users to be aware of WHAT they're installing on their phones. As much as I want to make fun of the new iPhone's flawed hardware design, I feel much safer downloading anything from the Apple store for my 3G that I've had since launch.

Again, it's about reading reviews and doing simple research before downloading/installing ANY app, because you never know =)

Welcome to the non-Windows world. You don't need anti-virus, just a brain. Don't install an app if the comments about it provide warnings, or if you can't fathom why the app is requesting a particular permission to install.

I recommend Zoner AntiVirus for Free, you can download it form the market. Its not just about using your brain. QR codes are sometimes hacked as well.
