Any 6P users got the Google Assistant update yet?

I have received this update but I have a question. Hope this doesn't hijack the thread.

Before the update I could press the center (circle) softkey on my 6p and I got the Google Search app. Now I get the Asst asking me what I need.

How do I go back to the prior function?

In all likelihood, you won't be able to. Google is migrating everyone over to Google Assistent, and the older On Tap/Screen Search is getting deprecated. Not testing it, off-hand, you could force a downgrade of your Google Play Services and that might revert, but running an older version of Play Svs is really bad news... too much stuff is wrapped into it for that to occur.

Maybe there is enough feedback to give the user the option to switch interfaces (after all, Google Assistant is more or less just a more voice capable version of On Tap).

(by the way... people need to stop getting hung up on what version of what application they have installed. When your phone is set to get Assistant, you will get the necessary updates fairly quickly.)

I have 10.2.98 and I don't have Assistant. What version enables it or it is a server switch things.

I just got Google Assistant this evening. I'm on 7.1.2 beta, January update, Google Play Services 10.2.98 (440-146496160).

I just checked, finally "arrived" on my phone. No updates applied by me, just a random "unlock and try it"...

I did apply the March security patch today, but that was HOURS ago.

I may be missing something, but Google assistant seems to be just a slightly improved version of current "OK Google" functionality.
That's what I keep thinking too!! I've had assistant for a couple of months on my 6p and it's pretty much the same thing
